Chapter 16 - Land and Fall

Astrid P.O.V

I blinked my eyes a couple of times, adjusting to the light from the window. As I fully opened my eyes I could feel my adrenalin rush into my veins like a whole new energy.

Maybe it's a sign? But a sign of what?

When I was walking downstairs, I could hear my wooden floor's creaking. Someone had gotten themself in without myself knowing it.

As the room became silent, I found myself listening to the intruder's breath. Seem like it is nervous.

"Hiyah!" I leaped with a battle cry and tackle the person behind the wall. "Geez Astrid, get away from me!" He was startled, his body sprawled below me like a frightened cat.

Right, Snotlout. How did I forgot?

"For a moment I forgot you stayed the night here." I got up and proceed to lend him a hand.

"Next time, don't startle your guest to death." He scoffed, bringing himself on to his feet.

"Besides I got stuff to do. See ya around, Astrid." He never like to be treated like the weak. Yesterday he could barely lift his spirit up over what happened to his father and the next thing you'll know he won't even bring the subject again. He hates to be reminded of something that affects him, something that kills him on the inside, something that makes him look like a weak viking.

And that, is Snotlout for you

He will talk. Just not now, but soon. In the right time.

I walk outside and feel the wind immediately attack itself to my skin. It brings the shiver into my body. Is it really that close to winter? I have lost the track of time

"Hey girl." I nudge Stormfly and she roared in return. I mount her and flew away from Berk. We flew to an island we've been before. It has unique dragon spieces but usually this is where the changewings decided to make its nest. I always called it the changewing's land.

I dismounted Stormfly and sat on the ground while looking at one of the best view I've ever seen. "This is a so much better scenery than Berk." I mutter to myself, while Stormfly nodded and laid down beside me. I pat her head and she gives a pur of affection in return. How cute.

Out of sudden a rustling sound came from behind the bushes. An unfamiliar smell making its way towards me. It moved so fast I couldn't tell what it was.

I lean closer to the bushes, my eyes advert towards anything around it until the little creature leaped and tackled me to the ground. I laugh as it licks me. "Hey there." I pat the baby changewing's head and it purred in delight.

This baby, it is surprisingly confident. It had the guts to approach a stranger without its mother. Or maybe it ran away from its mother.

"Go on go home, your mommy will be sad if you don't return to her." I smiled and urge him to go back. The small dragon hopped excitedly and leaves, leaving behind small yet cute foot prints.

These type of dragons are so cute, but sometimes even the smallest one can be dangerous.

Stormfly sat there looking at me with jealousy aura around her, I could sense it from here. What is there to be jealous of?" she turn her head facing the opposite direction from me. I approached her and scratch her favorite spot. Stormfly then lick me continuesly, indicating that she got the attention back and is satisfied with it. "Stormfly, you know that doesn't wash out." Then Stormfly let out his dragon smile. Real mature, Stormfly.

I sat back there for some hours, enjoying the relaxing and quite feeling of the mother nature.

But I can't stay for long, even though I want to.

I whistled and mounted Stormfly, told her to go home. Stormfly agreed and we flew back to Berk.

On the way to Berk, something big and fast flew right past me. "What in valhalla's name is this?" I tightened my grip on Stormfly's leash, my eyes wonder above looking for the mysterious creature.

As I release my grip to sooth Stormfly whom seemed to be startled, its giant claws grab me whole and brought me above air fast, my feet dangling above the ground and I couldn't help but struggle among its grip.

I look up to see the dragon and I literally face palmed as I realized who it is.

"Hiccup you're going to pay for this! You scared me to death!" I shouted, struggling to break free from the night fury's grasp.

"You want Toothless to let go?" Hiccup teases from above, but as I finally realized that if Toothless let go I would fall.

Just like that day.

"Pull me up, fishbone!" I started to tighten my grip on Toothless, not wanting to let go anymore.

"But I thought you want Toothless here to let go?" within those words escape from his mouth, Toothless had release me from his hold.

And here I am

Falling

Again

"I swear to Odin's grave I never wanted this to happened anymore." My head swirls like crazy, my eyes burst in tears and all I could see is myself falling once more. Something that I hate now, something that I would never want to do in my entire life anymore. I fear it. I fear of falling. Hells, I'm traumatized by it.

"Help! Hiccup! Help!" I choked out, my words stuck in my throat. Within seconds of hearing me, they swooped in and grab me. As I was brought on Toothless' back, I held onto Hiccup as tight as I can.

The feeling

The fear of falling

It consumes me whole

It is something that I can't get rid off.

And it's killing me. "Don't... do that." I buried my face onto his chest and began to whimper. Hiccup who seems to realize of what I'm afraid of, hold me back against his chest. Holding on and in this moment all I could think of is the warm and safe feeling begins to grow.

"I didn't meant to scare you Astrid." He softly whispered, his hands still holding me as one. "I never wanted to you to develop this fear, I never wanted you to be afraid of anything in your way." He stroked my hair slowly.

Toothless whined in guilt as he senses my discomfort, he flew steady and cautious. Not wanting to make another mistake.

"For this is my fault that you fear for falling, the fear of letting go." Hiccup continues, I had stopped pouring my emotion into his chest, I have controlled my nerves as I took several deep breaths. A trick I learned from Valka.

"I'm sorry Astrid." He looked into my eyes as I pulled away from his embrace. My mouth sewed shut, I can't find the strength and the guts reply. "Say, what if we talk about what you see in the Changewing's island as Toothless fly us back home?"

Alright.
