Taehyung stood outside of the company for a while, chewing on his bottom lip, his heart pulsating faster than normal.Inhaling a mouthful of appeasing air, he drew nearer to the door, and a security guard opened it just a few seconds later. "Thank you," he uttered with a bow and resumed his way to the elevator. It seemed like there was no one else there at that time since he didn't see anyone in the spacious lobby and didn't run into anyone either when he got into the elevator.
Upon arriving at the office, he knocked three times, and the door was yanked open by a frantic Jeongguk a moment later. "Why weren't you answering your phone?"
"My phone?" He searched his pockets, but his eyes widened when he realized it wasn't there. "Shit, I must have left it at the cafe." He racked through his bag too, although he was sure he left it on the counter after texting Jeongguk.
"I was worried, Tae, what took you so long?" He sighed as he tucked the boy into his hug, catching him unawares.
"I'm sorry," Taehyung said as he buried his face into the curve of his neck. He felt tender caresses on his back and heard a slow intake of breath, something that brought a smile to his lips as he thought that Jeongguk was most likely sniffing his scent. "You still haven't finished?"
"No, I have some things to do, but it won't take long. I won't be able to finish everything today, anyway." Jeongguk sounded rather worn out, but the dose he took of his floral aroma helped to a great extent to blanket his frazzled nerves.
"You look terrible."
"Thanks?"
"I didn't mean it like that." Taehyung chuckled, a sweet-tempered, delicate sound that reached the other's ears and sent a flutter of serenity through his chest. "You look tired and weak. Tell me that you actually ate something today."
The younger shook his head slowly as he gave him a sad smile. "I was busy."
"That doesn't mean you're not allowed to take a ten-minute break to eat!"
"I appreciate that you care, but my hyungs scolded me enough for one day."
"Why, what happened?"
"Let me just finish with the paperwork and we'll talk later, okay?" Once he saw the older nod, he went back to his desk, and Taehyung sat on the couch as he left the bag on the small table. "Is that takeout?"
"Um, yeah, since you canceled your order today I figured that you wouldn't have eaten anything so I got you japchae and bulgogi."
"Really?" Jeongguk's brows went sky high at the new information and a small smile tugged at his lips. When he received a few timid nods from the boy, he couldn't help but chuckle at his cuteness. "Thank you, Tae."
Taehyung smiled back at him, but as Jeongguk peeled his gaze away, he pressed his lips together upon remembering that he had to tell him what happened before.
He contemplated how to say it without end as he fidgeted in his seat frequently, all out restless. From time to time, he thought he could feel Jeongguk's stare on him, but he didn't venture to look at him.
About ten minutes passed, and Taehyung was still sunk in his thoughts, getting more anxious by the minute. I will just say it. Maybe he won't be that mad. Maybe he'll understand that I didn't have a choice or that it wasn't my fault. He nibbled his bottom lip as he closed his eyes for a spell. Who am I kidding? He will never talk to me again. He let out a shaky sigh as he dropped his head in defeat.
He was too caught up in his internal frenzy and didn't perceive that Jeongguk had sat next to him until he felt a fond touch on his shoulder. He whipped his head in his direction and stiffened when he met his gaze.
