Just Friends: A Noah Beck Story

4- After School

After school, Indy catches up to you as you're emptying your backpack and starts to tell you about her mishap during 4th period that caused her to miss lunch. She was complaining about how unfair her math teacher was when she noticed you had barely looked up from the ground.

Indiana: "Is everything ok? I'm sorry I'm all over the place today, I know"

You: "Lunch was rough, but it's over now and we can go back to my house"

Indiana: "Um- about that... I actually have detention. I told off my math teacher because- well nevermind it doesn't matter. I have to go before I'm counted as skipping detention, but I'll only be an hour"

You sit on the hood of her car and pull out a notebook and start to study hoping that if anyone sees you then you won't feel like a loser sitting out there all by yourself. You were always so worried about what people thought of you and it's something you really envied about Indiana. 

You heard footsteps and looked up to find Noah walking towards the parking lot and dissolved into a ball of nerves. He was wearing his gear from soccer still and something about the way the sweat on his head made his hair look wet was a lot more attractive than it should have been. He lifted his shirt to wipe the sweat dripping down his face revealing even more of his defined muscles. Your eyes are still fixated on his tanned stomach when you realize he probably caught you staring by now. You look back down at your book hoping he hadn't. If the fact that you could hear his footsteps approaching was any indicator, he at least noticed you sitting there.

Noah: "Hey, what are you doing out here still?"

You are terrified to look up so you just nod towards the books laid out around you on the car. He laughs at you and it sounds so sweet you can hear how cute his smile is.

You look up to see his teammate, Blake jogging up behind him. He was tall with raven black hair and charm that he wasn't nearly mature enough to understand how far it'd get him in life. 

He shoulder bumped Noah to rush him along and they both hopped in Addison's car that was parked a few spots down from you. You hear can't make out what they're saying over the blaring radio, but you can definitely hear Addison's laughter. Addison obviously wants you to hear their conversation because the music gets quieter and she keeps looking over at you as she talks.

Noah: "I was just making sure she wasn't like stranded. I was being nice"

Blake: "I'll give her a ride"

Addison: "Blake you're a pig"

Noah: "Dude what the hell she's like so innocent don't say crap like that"

Addison: "Seriously Blake, she's just a kid"

Blake: "She's literally the same age as all of us"

Before the conversation can continue, Bryce and Indiana walk out laughing together and Addison is silenced in shock.

Bryce gets in his girlfriend's car and you can tell Addison is annoyed by the way she peels out of the parking lot. Indiana helps you load up your books and throws your bags in the backseat before pulling out of the lot herself. You drive over a mile before you realize she isn't going to bring it up so you turn the radio down and turn to look at her.

Indiana: "What?"

You: "Seriously?"

Indiana: *nearly bursting at the seams to get it out*
"Oh. My. God. I know!!!!! We had detention together and we actually spent the entire time goofing around"

You: "So you had like a real conversation with him?"

Indiana: "For like an hour. We were the only two in detention and the teacher just told us to read quietly so he could disappear so we had an hour just the two of us. I think he might be into me actually.'

You are worried about her because she always goes for the wrong guys. The ones that look really cute while they're ripping her heart out by talking to a dozen girls at once
