Washington Strip was the place to be on a Saturday night. The long strip of clubs, bars, and restaurants filled the street as the decorative lights started to light up, giving downtown Washington a captivating view.
Regardless of how pretty it was, I still wasn't all that thrilled to be there.
We parked near the entrance and hurried to the line before it got long.
Taylor nudged my arm.
"Watch you meet somebody tonight."
I rolled my eyes yet again at her.
"Girl, I don't want nobody in here. I don't even know why I let you drag me all the way down here." I shook my head as I spoke.
"Myles, it's been damn near 4 months. How long are you gonna sulk around in ya' apartment thinkin' 'bout that bitch nigga?" Taylor asked, hopping in front of me as we were getting closer to getting in the club.
"I wouldn't say sulk, I just think about him from time to time. I know I shouldn't, but damn. A year and some change just gone like that." I said snapping my fingers for dramatic effect.
"Well maybe it's time you think about somebody else. C'mon, we're up next!" She said, excitement filling her voice. What's she so excited to see in here? Must be some man.
When we entered the club, Rihanna's 'Work' had just came on, and we immediately started jamming.
"All that I wanted from you was to give me somethin' that I never had-"
"Sir."
The sound of the deep voice next to my ear made me stop dancing. I turned around to see a tall man in a white buttoned down shirt with a drink in his hand.
"For you sir." He says as he hands me the drink.
With a confused look, I took the drink and replied, "But I didn't order a drink."
I cut my eyes at Taylor who was shaking her head, signaling she didn't order this drink either.
The server turned around and pointed to the bar, "The gentleman at the bar did. You folks enjoy your night." He said as he walked away.
I took a sip of the drink.
Rum and Coke, with a splash of strawberry purée. Who in the hell knows what I like to drink?
I turned around to the bar to see exactly what this mystery man looked like and when I finally did I was absolutely stunned by what I observed.
Mystery man was tall as the eye can see, he had gorgeous light brown curly hair, he was dressed in a white Ralph Lauren Polo shirt, black jeans and some white and black Jordan's, and a smile that could light this whole fucking club up. The man was fine!
"So are you going to talk to him or just stare all night long?" Taylor said, snapping me out of my trance.
"You know I'm not good at approaching people." I said, finally taking my eyes off of him and redirecting my attention to my bestfriend.
"You make me sick." She replied, ignoring a phone call that was coming through on her cell.
"Avoiding TyQuan?" I asked, with a smirk on my face.
She looked up at me and smiled.
"Maybe. Looks like who your avoiding is coming right behind you."
I immediately looked towards the bar area where he was standing.
Of course he's not there anymore.
"Can I get you another drink?" This deep voice from behind me said.
I turned from Taylor's direction and faced the mystery man himself.
"Sure, after you tell me your name." I smirked.
"It's Noland." He said, almost shyly.
"Well then yes, Noland you can buy me another drink." I smiled as we walked to the bar.
Noland ordered my drink and couldn't keep his eyes off mine.
"What are you staring at?" I asked.
"I can't look at you?" He said with a small flash of a smile.
"Here's your drink, sir." The bartender said, snapping me out the steamy conversation.
"Thank you."
He nodded his head, and with that I walked away with Noland in tow.
"Wanna step outside? It's kind of loud in here." I suggested. I wanted to smoke, so he became the perfect distraction.
"Sure." He said following me outside to Taylor's car.
Once outside, I put my drink on the roof of her car and dug into my jacket pocket and pulled out my blunt and lighter.
"You smoke Noland?"
"I do."
What a start to a beautiful friendship.
"I like you already." I said as I put the blunt to my lips, lit it and took a long pull before passing it to him.
"So what's a fine man like yourself doin' here all alone?"
I blushed at his compliment.
"I just got out of a little situation a few months ago, and my homegirl dragged me down here."
He took another pull of my blunt and handed it to me.
"Awe man, I'm sorry about the breakup. I'm glad she dragged you down here though."
I looked at him with a perplexed expression.
"And why is that?" I asked, ashing the blunt before I passed it to him.
"'Cause I got to meet you. I saw you when you first came into the club."
Oh he had his eye on me the whole night.
"Why didn't you approach me then?"
"Feelin' you out."
"Oh really? What you think so far?"
"I think your this beautiful guy, with a attitude about you that makes people want to be in your presence. I think you have the prettiest smile I've ever seen."
Damn Noland!
The damn boy left me speechless. And I thought coming here was a bad idea.
"You okay?" He asked, realizing my loss for words.
"Yes, I'm just shocked as all. I've never had anyone say that to me before." I said as I took my last pull of my blunt.
As I French inhaled my last hit, I saw a bright flash hit my eyes.
"Capturing something?" I asked, wiping my eyes.
"Your beauty." He said, smiling.
I looked at the picture he took, and it was dope. The dark of the background, with the cloud of smoke filling the air around me. He really knew what he was doing.
I looked at the time, and it was getting late. Noland realized the time too.
Without another notice, he hugged me.
The hug felt sensual, heartfelt. Like a hug he knew I needed.
"I want to see you again." Noland said, breaking the embrace.
I programmed my number in his phone.
"Text me sometime."
"No problem." He said as he smiled and walked to his car and sped off.
"And where the hell have you and mystery man been all night long?" Taylor said scaring the hell out of me.
"Right here." I said laughing.
"I know, I was being nosey the whole time." She laughed.
"You know what? Get in the car girl and take me home." I said slapping her arm playfully.
We jumped in our respective seats and drove down the main road.
"So tonight was a success I see." Taylor said, breaking the silence.
I just simply nodded my head.
Yes, yes it was.
