I met Steve at his car after school, and he had a mildly annoyed look on his face.

"Basketball practice?" I asked.

"I really don't want to talk about it." He said, getting into the car. I climbed into the passenger's seat and he pulled out of the parking lot, stopping Melvald's General Store. I waited in the car, and when he came outside, he was carrying a bouquet of roses. I raised my eyebrows at him as he got back in. "What?"

"Those are some nice flowers to buy someone you're pretty sure you're not getting back together with." I said skeptically, turning to look out the windows.

"Well, if you're forcing me to talk to her, I figured I might as well do it right." He said. I shook my head, rolling my eyes at him.

He pulled up outside of the Wheeler house, and we both got out and began walking up the path, me to get my coat, and Steve to see what the future of him and Nancy's relationship was.

"Steve, Riley." We both looked up to see Dustin walking towrads us.

"Dustin, Hey-" I started.

"Are those for Mr. Or Mrs. Wheeler?" He asked, gesturing to the flowers. Steve held them up, looking at the flowers in confusion.

"No.

"Good." He snatched them out of his hand, walking back towards Steve's car, causing me to furrow my eyebrows.

"Hey. What the heck? Hey!"

"Nancy isn't home." He told us.

"Where is she?" I asked.

"It doesn't matter. We have bigger problems than your love life." He walked over to Steve's car, opening the door to the back seat. "Do you still have that bat?"

"Bat? What Bat?" Steve questioned.

"The one with the nails."

"Why?"

"I'll explain it on the way."

"Now?"

"Now!" Steve and I shared a look before running over to the car and jumping inside. Steve started it up.

"Stop by your house first." I told him.

"There's no time-" Dustin started. I turned around to face him.

"I have an ax in the bed of my truck. If this is the kind of thing we need the bat for, don't you think it would be smart to have more than one person armed?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.

"Yeah, fair enough." Steve took off driving towards his house.

"What's going on, Dustin?"

"So, you remember the other day at school, when we were looking for Dart?"

"Kind of hard to forget, yeah." I said dryly.

"Wait, Dart? What the heck is Dart?"

"Well I thought he was a new species of lizard that I found in my garbage can. Well anyway, I found him, and I took him back home, but when I came home from school today, his tank was smashed, he had molted, and he was at least three times bigger than he was before. I managed to trap him in the cellar, but-"

"Wait a sec, how big?" Steve asked. Dustin leaned up between our seats so that Steve could see his hand gestures.

"First he was like that," He held up his thumb and pointer finger as a measurement, "Now he's like this." He held up both hands, making a much bigger shape. I raised my eyebrows.
