Fire Queen

Sitting on the top of the mountain, it's truly breathtaking, I can see my whole island still sleeping, I like to get up and train in the morning, you know rising with the sun, there's something in the air in the morning, something that makes you feel free like nothing is holding you down,
no responsibility, no duty, no tragic past, just free before all of them wake up, and put chains around my neck, tell me what I can be, what can I do, what I should be,

I took a deep breath, looking down, people are finally awake to start their day, I started to climb down the mountain, to start being the perfect girl this island needs, we are one of the oldest civilization in the world, well after our brother civilization Sun warrior civilization,

But unlike them, we survived, but the dragons on our islands didn't, cruel fire nation killed them all and we couldn't do anything, my grandmother use to tell me stories about how close dragons were to people of our tribe before we failed them,

We live, breath, and love fire, our whole existence surrounds Agni, we train even though we don't get in fights, we are a calm tribe in that way, we like to keep our distance from the rest of the world, it's better that way,

"Good morning Ryu" An old lady nodded at me as I entered my small village, "Good morning to you too" I nodded back, I am the granddaughter of the chief of this tribe so everyone knows who I am, well everyone knows everyone but we are respected, my bloodline led this tribe from the start, I am next in line, well me and my brother is, we have to Agni Kai to find out who will be next leader. This happens in every generation, the siblings have to fight and the last one standing lead the tribe,

I entered the biggest house at the end of the tribe, it's chief's house, well my grandmothers to be exact, but we live with her, there sitting my whole family around the table, I am late again shit,

"Good morning, Sorry for being late" I apologized taking a seat, right to my grandmother, "Good morning to you too, how was training?" she asked

"It was great, you know how much I enjoy morning training" I took a bite out of the bread in front of me,

My uncle sat on the other side of the table while my brother sat in front of me, "Do you remember today is a big day, we have fire lord Zuko coming to our humble tribe" Uncle said looking directly at me, "Of course I do, I don't understand why he is coming in the first place?"

"It's our greatest honor to have him visit us, so I want you on your best behavior and on time, not late like always" Uncle scolded me, he hates me, he hated my mother too,

"Jie leave Ryu alone, she always behaves and I know she won't let us or this tribe down" My grandmother defended me,

"Mother, everything must be perfect," My uncle said standing up he wiped his mouth with the napkin and turned to my brother, he does love him for sure, never knew what I did to him, maybe he hates all women, his sister beat him in Agni Kai, must have hurt,

"Bao, let's go check everything out before they arrive, they will be here anytime, and Ryu go get ready, you are all sweaty, and please dress like a normal girl for once" Uncle likes to insult me from time to time, it makes him happy I think, knowing arguing was of no use, "Yes Uncle"

I looked down and he is right I am sweaty I was training what did he expect?, and I don't normally dress in pretty big dresses they are so uncomfortable never understood why females want to do this to themselves,

Uncle and brother left, Bao didn't even say a word, he must be scared, we all should be little, last time fire royal family came to this island, they killed last of our dragons, let's hope he is as kind as people say,

"Don't you think it's suspicious that they are visiting us, like fire lord visiting this small island for no reason, that's just unacceptable" I questioned,

"We will find out what he wants when he comes, right now all we can do is hope for the best, now go get ready, I asked Kai to come to help you she is in your room" Grandmother answered, she never gets worried or angry, she is always happy, I never understood how she does it,

I stood up and kissed her on the cheek, I took an apple from the table and went to my room knowing my best friend has probably decided what I am going to wear,
There she sat on my bed surrounded by all my fancy clothes, I have a lot, females of the tribe adore me, they are literary spoiling me at this point, I told them many times they don't have to but they don't stop, after my mother's death, all tribe took me and my brother in as we are one of their own,

"Ryu finally you're here, we have so much to do, you are so sweaty, did you had to train today? go shower now" she exploded like she always does, she gets excited at every small thing,

"Yes Kai I had to, and calm down I am going, everyone needs to stop telling me I am sweaty I know I am," I said walking to toward the bathroom, she was still looking at the dresses,

"Ryu I picked up the dress you are going to wear," she said walking into the bathroom, I was sitting in the bathtub, "Are you worried?" She asked, sitting on the side of the tub,

"Maybe a little, even grandmother doesn't know what he wants" I replied getting deeper into the water to be covered completely, "The whole tribe is on the edge, they all are worried" She looked worried well I can't blame them,

"Everything will turn out great; he will complete his visit and go away and leave us alone" I put my hand on hers, letting her know we are in this together,

"Okay get up, wear the dress on the bed, I will do your hair" She stood up and walked away,

"Everything will be okay" I whispered to myself,
