I remember...

The still air of the night,
was interrupted by the soft creak of my bedroom door...
A silence with intrusive eyes
That crept into the night,
With an eagerness, no...
A hunger.

Locking out the light with a soft click,
It knows I'm not asleep.
It knows how I breathe; A shallow rise and fall. My heart, an anxious knock, as the air thickens.

My eyes open into the dark of the room.
I didn't have to see, to know that it was right in front of me.
A dominating presence, that kept me awake.

The breathing, the beating of it's heart.
A distant knock, that's door was never answered.
Hands that weren't warmed by the flames, yet kept left reaching out...
Something new lingered in its eyes,
Something unknown.

I know this is it...
I hadn't a chance.
There is no escape this time...
No one to stop it...

My cold lips pursed together,
Inevitable disregard of hope.

The curtain shifted only for a moment, to exspose the fate thrusted upon me.

I remembered it so clearly....

The light before the dark;
The white before the black..
No tenacity of purpose behind
The next time
His fingers played the silver violin.
