"O-Oh my Hylia..." You whisper, your voice portraying your heartbreak at the sight of your brother and his condition. You've spent so much time preparing yourself to see him again, yet you never imagined he'd look the way he does. You don't even know what to call it. You're well aware that dark magic has its effects on users, and you've seen the malice that grows around Hyrule especially in the Divine Beasts, but this...
Suddenly, the Sorcerer's eyes go wide as if just noticing the presence of intruders. Not giving either of you much time to process what's going on, he lunges forward, letting out an animalistic shout. Link draws the Master Sword, holding it out in a ready position while instantly stepping in front of you, but he won't need it.
Upon making it only a few feet, a blinding, golden light shines around Cody's body. As this light dulls, the shape of chains becomes visible, stopping him midair and throwing him towards the ground. These chains snake around his arms and legs, preventing him from moving any further, in fact, he can barely move at all. For a second, Link thinks you had been the one to create them, however when he glances behind himself to you, you're still standing with a hand over your mouth, just as surprised at what had happened.
"...Link, (Y/n)," His eyes widened, almost immediately recognizing the voice that seems to echo throughout the sanctum, "...I'm sorry...b-but I don't think I can hold him -"
Before the voice can finish her sentence, one of the chains surrounding Cody's arm snaps. The Sorcerer doesn't waste a second to use this small amount of freedom to his advantage, holding his hand out towards the two of you.
"LOOK OUT!" You push Link to the ground, your shout echoed out by the sound of a ray of magic barely passing over your heads before it blazes around the room amok.
"You must listen to me quickly! Cody isn't himself! There's something else in -"
The sound of crumbling stone and crackling flames fills the air making it difficult to focus on the voice's words especially when, in the corner of his eyes, Link can see the ray of magic returning your way. He grabs a hold of your waist, pulling you close as a faint color of orange appears around you in a sphere that manages to reflect the magic away into the ceiling above. Meanwhile, Cody begins thrashing around, the golden chains continuing to break one by one.
"- I'm sorry, but I can't hold him back any longer...Please, do what you must to do to save Hyrule!"
Finally, the last of the chains shatters completely and Cody's free to rise into the air, his eyes setting once more on Link and you as you watch him in horror. He brings his hand to his side, swinging a wave of magic towards you and, just like before, Link uses Daruk's Protection to deflect it again.
"What do we do?"
You don't answer. You're leaned back against Link's chest, your fingers pressed to your temples in an attempt to concentrate on reaching your brother's mind yet despite your best efforts, you just can't get through. It's as if there's a wall keeping you out. While your teachers had mentioned magic wielders having the ability to block others out of their minds, you've never encountered it during your training, at least not to your brother's extent, anyways.
"(Y/n) -" Link glances at you. Noticing his lack of attention, Cody holds out his hand again to shoot another ray of magic.
You blink open your eyes at just the right moment, gasping and jumping out of Link's arms to raise your own in front of yourself. Your barrier shields you both from the impact of Cody's attack, one that seems to be never-ending and perfectly aimed thanks to the lack of chains pulling at him now.
