Dallas's POV
--

Aw, dang it.

Spencer's dark eyes glare at me unblinkingly leaving spikes of fear lodged in my chest. It's going to happen again and Nicole's not going to be able to stop him.

But, surprisingly, he turns his gaze to his daughter, narrowing his cruel eyes. "I see you know about werewolves." He looks back at me. "I assume this is your doing." He spits and looks back at his daughter. "And you're like your mother. You have visions." At this, a malicious twinkle glints in his eyes, making me growl defensively and step towards Nicole. I won't let him think of her as a possession; an object. She will not be thought of as something to make more people powerful. She should be allowed to do what she wants.

Nicole doesn't even flinch, but instead stares her father in the eyes, the intensity making me look away. "Yes. I know what I am and what I can do; something you never bothered to tell me yourself. Is that why you came home today? So you could insert me into your life of terror?" She retorts, her voice rather calm and collected. Had it been me in her position, I would have torn Spencer's face off. "Dallas, here, has been nothing but kind to me. He saved me from bullies." Spencer's eyes seem to darken, the only sign of emotion. "That's right, daddy. I was bullied and you didn't even know." She leans back on a leg, crossing her arms and glowering at him. Her posture and angry glint in her eyes seems to illuminate her. "When were you going to tell me that you killed your mate? When were you going to tell me you killed mom?" Spencer's silence is even more dangerous than his words. "You were never there for me. You don't care about me." She says. He doesn't deny it, making a surge of anger from her go barreling at him.

And that's when he snaps.

The door lurches open and his presence looms over Nicole and I. We are two mice stuck in a maze.

I should have seen it coming.

His rough hands seize me by the throat, slamming me against the wall and with a punch to my gut, the air gets knocked out of me again. I'm vaguely aware of Nicole clawing at him and screaming, but I really don't know if I'm imagining it or not. Once again, sleep seems to be the easiest route. Black spots appear in my vision and as he squeezes tighter, I know that with one more squeeze, I'll be dead. All of his anger and sadness and depression leaks into me from his grip.

"This boy has turned you into a rebellious spirit, and I will not have it, Nicole!" Her father seethes, practically shaking. "If you want him to live, you will never see, talk, call, text, email, whatever him again." Nicole's eyes stare at mine, her face now pale and blotchy from the multiple tears streaming down her face. She punches her father weakly in the arm, but it doesn't do anything. He only tightens his grip on my throat, making my eyes start to roll back in my head. My face is tomato red and I feel myself close to passing out. The weight of the world becomes weaker as life looses its grip on me. Nicole's voice is barley audible to me as I sink

Sink

Sink

Sink into the hands of death.

My eyes lock with hers as I feel her fear shaking me. And then it stops.

I get dropped to the floor, gasping for air. I'm faintly aware of the painful presence of Nicole watching me. When I look up to see her, she closes her beautiful eyes and turns away, heading down the hall with meaningful, sagging strides. And then my angry gaze turns to her father.

"I'm going to kill you." I say.

"You'll have to learn to stop saying things you won't do before you'll ever get close."

"Oh don't worry. It's a promise."
