Dallas's POV
--

Immediately, a wolf tackles me. It's claws rake down my side, allowing Crimson to follow the trails of its nails. With a quick lurch, I dart out of the wolf's reach so I can observe any weaknesses. It's green eyes lock with mine and then it launches itself at me again. Stupid move. Never launch yourself at someone.

Using his body weight as leverage, I stand on my back legs and await the attack. When it barrels into me, I snatch anything I can find in my teeth and roll backwards, bringing the wolf with me. When we stop our roll, I'm pinning it to the ground. It stares up at me with incredulous eyes.

I'm the Alpha's son.

A searing pain ignites in my side, almost unbearable, but not quite.

Another wolf. Trying to help out his buddy.

My side leaks, and I have a horrified suspicion that they ruined my side from healing properly ever again.

I roar loudly, quickly clamping my jaws on the pinned wolf's throat and tearing it out. His sickly sweet blood floods my mouth as I restrain myself from gagging.

But the other wolf barrels into my bleeding side, leaving me struggling for air and to gain my ground again. It's teeth snatch at my face and I'm barely able to turn so it gets my ear instead. I jerk my head up, yelping from the pain, but snagging it's throat and then yanking downwards with a mighty crack.

The body falls on me with a heavy thud, the scent of death lingering in my nostrils.

Weak from fatigue, I scramble to push the body off, using up my energy.

Once standing again, my eyes wander the clearing. Multiple bodies are strewn across the floor. Somehow, it's only down to Spencer, my father, and I. I don't know what happened to the other wolves.

Taking a step forward, I nearly fall. My leg. It's broken. I don't remember how.

Every muscle screams in pain and agony as I limp forward, favoring my injured leg. Everything aches.

When I catch a glimpse of Spencer and my father circling each other, I try to move faster, causing my legs and muscles to scream at me.

I growl menacingly at Spencer, my eyes becoming slits.

Both him and my father have cuts all over. They've been at it for awhile.

I want nothing more than to sink my teeth into his neck. Why is he attacking my father? I thought he wanted to break him and weaken him, not kill him. That is why he killed my mother, right? Right?

All three of us exchange a look and immediately morph into our human forms. With a quick tug, we all pull some shorts on. Where they came from, I seriously have no idea.

"Hello, Dal." Spencer mocks, using Nicole's nickname for me. I growl again at him, wishing I could tear him apart.

My father crosses his arms, watching Nicole's father with wariness.

"What's wrong? Surprised I'm going after your old man?" He grins, his eyes suggestively glinting. "Thought I was going to spare him?" The pieces all start clicking together, forming a picture that makes me want to cringe.

I shake my head. Faster each time. He didn't. No. This can't be.

He's not going after my father. He's not trying to break him. He's not trying to weaken him.

It's me.

I'm who he wants. He's trying to break me. Because I'm the competition.
