I grab the keys out of the pocket of my jacket nervously

I grab the keys out of the pocket of my jacket nervously. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that Jace wants to meet my mom, I really am. I guess I just want them to like each other, and I'm curious to see how they'll react to the situation. Before I can put my key in the lock, the door swings open.

"I knew I heard something" my mom beams at me.

Immediately a smile grows on my face. I've missed her.

"Hey mom" I say and bring her into a hug right away. I can tell her eyes grow wide when she looks at the boy standing next to me.

"And you must be Jace" she says, giving him a huge smile too. Jace returns it and offers his hand for mom to shake.

"Nice to meet you ma'm" he says. My mom denies the handshake and pulls him into a hug.

"Mom" I say warningly, not sure how Jace feels about being so close to a stranger. I have to laugh at his facial expression slightly. Everyone in our family likes human touch.

"Please, call me Helen" mom says with her hands still on Jace's shoulders. "Come in you two."

Jace grabs my bag, as we make our way inside.

"You have a beautiful home, Helen" he says, dropping my belongings right next to the door.

"Oh thank you darling. I'm so glad I get to meet you, I've heard quite a lot about you" mom says as we march into the living room.

"Have you? All good I hope" Jace answers, smirking at me.

"Absolutely" mom says, glancing at the two of us. "Can I get you guys anything to drink? A coffee maybe?"

"A coffee would be great, thank you" Jace says with his hands in his pockets. "Can I help?" he offers.

"No, you go ahead and sit on the couch. Make yourself at home" mom says.

Jace nods his head and does as told. Mom and I make our ways into the kitchen. I feel like I can breathe again for the first time since arriving. That went well, I think.

"I didn't know you were bringing him!" mom exclaims, as she turns the coffee machine on.

"Me neither. He drove me and said he wanted to come in and say hi" I say, grabbing the normal coffee as well as my decaf coffee out of one of the cabinets.

"What a lovely young man. He's so handsome" my mom gushes.

I have to smile right away. "He is" I say, drifting off. "Sometimes I still can't believe he's my boyfriend" I admit to her.

"Boyfriend?" my mom says excitedly.

"I forgot to tell you, but yeah" I grin back at her.

"Oh sweetie, I'm so happy for you" she answers, bringing me into another hug
