Chapter 13: It's Because I...

After being contacted by Luck, Finral opened a portal to find a fairly intact Luck, Noelle with ripped clothes and an unconscious Asta. "Oh my god! What happened!?" said Finral as he ran to the group, "It's a long story, help us get him into the base" replied Noelle as she and Luck held Asta by and arm each. "Oh yeah sure!" said Finral as he went to the group and took over the arm Noelle was holding. "Let's go" said Luck as the three began to walk into the portal.

Once the group brought in the unconscious Asta, they were swarmed by their squadmates (minus Gauche who was too distracted by a picture of Marie) , all concerned about the condition of their anti-magic rookie. "What happened!?" asked Vanessa, "Is Rasta ok!?" said Magna, "does he need to eat something!?" said Charmy as she brought out a chicken leg. Gordon was whispering about his concern for his best friend but as usual no one could hear him. "Alright that's enough" said Yami as he walked towards the huddle of mages, "Finral and Luck, take the kid to his room". "Yes sir" said Finral as he and Luck began to walk down the hallway that led to Asta's room. Once Finral and Luck were out of the room Yami turned his attention to Noelle, "now, we'll wait for those two to come back then you'll tell us what happened" said Yami as he sat down signaling the remaining members to sit as well. "Yes sir" said Noelle as she took a seat that faced the rest of the squad.

After a minute or two of waiting, Finral and Luck walked into the room. "Alright, he's in his bed asleep now" said Finral as he walked to the group and took a seat along with Luck. "Good work" said Yami before returning his attention to Noelle, "now, tell us what happened". " It was going fine for the most part" said Noelle, "Asta had just taken out the Diamond Mage we were fighting and we had entered the treasure room. Then I remember seeing the mage get up and attack me". 'Diamond Kingdom, I should have known they'd be the cause of this' thought Yami before he took a puff of his cigarette, "then what happened". "After that all I remember is waking up to Mimosa healing me and Asta... was different" said Noelle as she began to remember the monster Asta had become. "What do you mean different?" asked Vanessa, "he had turned into a monster" replied Noelle, shocking everyone. " He was more like a raging animal than he was human" said Noelle, "he was ruthless, he was even gonna kill the Diamond kingdom mage". "Rasta was gonna kill someone!?" said Magna in shock, this time Luck chimed in, "he wasn't just gonna kill him, he was gonna eradicate him". "Asta was gonna hit him point blank with an anti-magic mouth blast" said Noelle as she looked down, "he didn't even hesitate". Before everyone was shocked, now... everyone was scared, "there has to be an explanation for this right?" asked Vanessa. Just then Noelle remembered something Liebe said in the dungeon while Asta was going berserk.

'This isn't like with Mom!'

"His mom..." said Noelle, causing everyone to look at her. "His mom? What are you talking about?" asked Magna confused. "While Asta was going crazy, Liebe yelled how my wound wasn't like with his mom" said Noelle, "I think Liebe may know why Asta went crazy like that". In response Yami took his cigarette out of his mouth before saying "well, it looks like it's the only lead we got. Noelle, go bring Liebe out here". "W-wha? Why me!?" said Noelle sounding nervous, "because you've spent the most time with those two out of anyone. Not to mention if he were to somehow wake up he'd probably freak out less if he saw you in his room. Now do it or you're dead" replied Yami. Noelle then sprang up from her seat and quickly walked to the hallway to Asta's room.

After a minute of walking, Noelle found Asta's room. 'Alright calm down Noelle, you're just going in there to get Liebe' thought Noelle as she opened the door. Once she opened the door she found a small room that minus the tattered blanket, was incredibly clean. 'I expected this place to be filthy' thought Noelle as she walked into the room. Noelle then walked over to the bed to see Asta asleep and his grimoire on his bedside. Noelle couldn't help but have a faint smile at the sight of Asta sleeping so peacefully after the hectic day they've had. "Uh... why are you watching me brother sleep?", Noelle had to cover her mouth to stop herself from screaming before looking to her left to see Liebe floating beside her. "Liebe!? Don't scare me like that!" said Noelle in an angry whisper, "you still didn't answer my question" replied Liebe while smirking. "I-I wasn't staring! I was.... Just checking if he was ok!" said Noelle while she was bright red. "Yeah, sure you were" said Liebe as he rolled his eyes, "well he's gonna be fine so if checking up on him was all you were here for you can head back now". "A-actually, Captain Yami wants to speak to you" said Noelle, "we want to know what happened... to your Mom". In response Liebe lets out a deep sigh, "Ok, it's better you guys learn sooner rather than later" said Liebe as he began to leave the room with Noelle following him.
