❝This is not rage; this is my sadness on fire❞
VOLTERRA, ITALY - VOLTURI CASTLE
Everyone knew that Caius disliked Carlisle, well he disliked everyone really, but there was something about Carlisle and his pathetic (from Caius' point of view) diet, that absolutely infuriated the man - well, vampire. So when Aro insisted that the blonde speak on the phone with the 'vegetarian' vampire it was safe to say the the angry king was - well - angry about it, but nonetheless he ripped the phone out of Aros hand and snarled into the phone "What?" but no time in the world could prepare Caius for Carlisles next words; "You need to come to Forks. Anna tried to kill herself"
Caius was speechless, for the first time in 3000 years someone - other than Aro - had rendered him truly speechless. His mate, the one who he was supposed to grant happiness, he had pushed into a suicide attempt. He hung up the phone and flung across the room and into the wall where after it fell completely shattered on the floor, Aro took this as his cue to leave the room, not liking that he didn't know what his brother might do.
Caius didn't remember ever being this angry, but not with anyone else; with himself. The worst part was that he didn't understand why, he wasn't supposed to care - she was just a human, a weak and pathetic one if she couldn't even handle a completely mundane life, but none of these facts changed Caius' fury.
He picked up a chair and threw it across the room before screaming out in rage, he didn't want this, he didn't ask for this, think of all the ways the ways this girl can be used to hurt you he thought no, she can not because I don't care he told himself, I do not care. But whether he would admit it or not, he did care much more than he should about her - not because she was human - but because he loved her even if he didn't know it, he had loved her from the moment he saw, with that look of admiration in her eyes, yet he didn't even know the girl, and the thought that he had been so close to never being able to know her broke him.
Caius wasn't a man to be broken, he had lived for more than 3000 years and he was one of the strongest if not possibly the strongest creature on earth, he wasn't going to be broken by some silly little girl who was foolish enough to slit her wrists. So instead of letting himself be broken (though he already was) he broke his surroundings. After an hour his room was completely wrecked, Caius sat on the floor amongst it all, as if finally dawned on him - she tried to kill herself, think of all the blood, all the pain. She tried to kill herself.
VOLTERRA ITALY - OUTSIDE THE CLOCKTOWER
THREE DAYS LATER
Three days; that's how long he had been at war with himself, well four really if you count the day he met his beautiful mate , Anna. He was still at war, standing there he simply couldn't do it, he just couldn't, he would be dooming himself if he did that was for sure, and he was a selfish man, never would he do something that wasn't in his best interest, and this surely wasn't, even if he had made all the preparations: he had divorced Athenadora, a woman that he hadn't loved for centuries any how, he had gathered the elite guard, he had discussed the matter with his brothers, he had gotten the plane ready and most importantly (in his mind) he had come up with an excuse to go, one that didn't involve Anna.
He could go to Seattle, which was not that far from Forks, with the excuse of personally wanting to look into what seemed to be a newborn situation, he could go to the Cullens to check up on the whole Isabella Swan situation, and in doing so her could check up on her in secret, because as long as no one knew it didn't matter, right?
There was only one problem, he couldn't do any of that, because he just needed to be with her, at whatever cost, that's what he needed, but it certainly wasn't what he wanted, no he was truly at war, head VS heart, who would win.
"Brother" Caius turned to see Marcus coming towards him, Caius unwired his brother with a: "hmm" "go to her, it's you last chance, your last chance at bringing meaning to this unending existence" Marcus told him, giving Caius the push he needed to take the last step towards the stairs going into the plane "Thank you, Marcus" he said shortly, before continuing up the stairs "I will see you soon amore mio" he whispered as the entrance was closed behind him, making Marcus disappear from his view, and off to Forks they were.
