“Mina Lopez, 27, vital signs stable. Sustained a large facial laceration and a massive head trauma.”

“Let’s get her into trauma 1 and page Dr. Lester Andrada.”

“Hey, what do we got here?”

I was about to answer him nang biglang bumukas ang pintuan at napatingin ako sa intern ko.

“Doc!” sigaw niya,

“What is it, Torres?”

“A patient is asking for you,”

She said, I looked at my brother to ask permission and he nodded at me. I immediately went out and looked for the patient.

“Give me her name and status,” I asked as we walked towards the patient’s bed.

“Fayth Villareal, vital signs are stable but she has a laceration on her forehead and a swelling ankle.”

Si Fayth!? Andito? Tama ba pagkakarinig ko?

Hinawakan ko ang kurtina at binuksan ito. Fayth was laying down the bed while her eyes were closed. The blood from the cut in her forehead was dripping down to her neck and her ankle was swollen.

“Hey, wake up.”

“Hey, you look good in your coat! I’m glad that you’re here.”

I said and she just chuckled. I started to clean the cut in here forehead and stitched it.

“Ano bang ginawa mo at nagkaganito ka ha?” I asked, “At bakit ka pala nasa Ermita?

“That’s very brave of you! I laughed at her and she just rolled her eyes at me.

I stopped laughing and asked her again, “So, bakit ka nga nasa Ermita?”

“I was supposed to meet up with our new lawyer. I bet he’s still waiting for me.” She said and looked down.

“It’s him, isn’t it?”

“Huh? What are you talking about?” She asked, confused.

“You still love him and don’t even deny it ‘cause I can see through you.” I said which made her smile.

We both remained quiet for a while, maybe I shouldn’t have brought that topic out.

“Do you know that feeling when sometimes we feel like the world is against us but the truth is, the only person against us is ourselves.” I said, breaking the silence, “We always allow the words and actions of others to affect or change our feelings and the way we live our lives.”
