COLLEAGUES AND FRIENDS

several days gone by

Our first week in Florida has its ups and downs in our relationship. The second week we decided we go eat at some of the local restaurants and hole in the wall restaurants  to enjoy the Latin food flavor.
I tried a Cuban sandwich paired with Cuban dulce le leche – soured milk that’s curdled and then sweetened.

Jane loves and tries to find local places she finds out the out skirts of our city in the poorer areas of town that I don't frequent. I already knew we would have more than one meal of Cuban food.

This churro was different than Jane had ever tried. This has mango fruit deep fried inside and Jane wanted us to learn how to make it.

Jane can never go a week or so without having burger.  This was the burger she ordered. It was a little spicy for me. Jane and I would take a piece of each other's meal to taste if in the future she or I would order it for ourselves. This took two of her orders in one. This burger was spicy but had fries in it to cut down the spicy flavor.

We enjoyed our lunch.and just walked along the streets going into boutiques that were locally owned. I found a few mules that I purchased as well as two purses.  I found a sterling silver bracelet that Jane liked so I bought it for her. Jane was trying to refrain from getting mad at me public. We left the stores and stopped at a park. "Maura I can purchase stuff for myself. Please don't think you have to buy me something just because I like it.  You want me to be honest with you when we shop. I don't want to start lying to you that I like something or stay outside while you shop. So please stop. I do love the bracelet thank you." Our relationship was fairly knew so I was still on a learning curve with Jane and vice versa.
We went back to the vehicle and went for a drive along another beach and just stayed there for awhile and buying two fresh fruit ice cream bars.
Jane asked if I  would drive to other areas that I hung out at worked and lived at. So we drove around for several hours. We would get out for a bit to walk to stretch our legs. We finally made it back to the beach house and were not really hungry so I made chef salad for us to eat with some raspberry tea with mint and later a mojito for our evening drink while we sat on the deck taking in the sound of the waves, birds and boats. We slept like a baby that night. We woke refreshed and a went for a five mile jog this morning.  Jane needed to start jogging more to get ready for the Boston marathon.

We cleaned up and took in more of the Cuban cuisines.

We knew we wouldn't be able to eat out food and asked for containers to go. We ended the evening with a mojito. We tried food from Guatemala, Brazil, and Puerto Rico. Some we liked and others not so.
We over all enjoyed the two weeks in Miami.  We flew back to Boston.
