Y/N's POV:

As I exited my fourth period class there stood Violet across the hall, leaned up against the red lockers in her cheer uniform.

The smile on her face only grew with each step that I took toward her.

"Someone's extra smiley today"
"Yeah cause my favorite person is talking to me" She said shyly, sure to turn her head so I couldn't see the blush creeping up onto her cheeks.

"Where's your basketball jersey?" She asked as headed toward the tables in the quad outside.
"Am I supposed to wear it? I didn't know"

"The cluelessness isn't gonna keep being cute Santos, get it together" Jordyn said shaking her head as we approached the table.
"You act like I'm doing it on purpose, I'm new here"

"You've been here almost a month"

I rolled my eyes and stole Violet's red apple out of her hands

She punched my arm when I took a bite.

"I have the jersey in my bag, should I put it on?"

Violet and Jordyn both immediately nodded.

I slid one of the straps off and unzipped my bag, pulling out the jersey and sliding it on over my plain white t-shirt.

"Better?"

They nodded and continued their conversation.

"I'm gonna go buy a water, I'll be back"

I stood up from the table and walked over to the big black vending machine. Reaching into my left pocket, I pulled out the two dollars in change from my bagel this morning.

"You playing today?"

I turned my head to the right to see Ariana in the same uniform as Violet with a smile on her face.

"Y-Yeah, why? You wanna call me trash again?" I joked and we both laughed.
"I said you sucked not that you were trash"
"Same thing"

"Ariana"

One of her friends had called her name and waved, telling her to go over to them. She turned around and yelled 'wait' before turning back to face me.

"So I'll uh- I'll see you at the game right?" She asked as she grabbed the fruit snacks she just bought.
I nodded and she gave me a smile before walking back over with her friends.

On my way back to our table, I looked over at Ariana's table to see her staring at me. When we made eye contact her head dropped.

"What was that about?" Jordyn asked as I took my seat across from her.
"What was what about?"
"You and Grande"

"She was just asking me if I was going to the game and I said yeah"
"Who was asking?" Violet said as she sat down beside me

"Oh it was nothing"

Ariana's POV:

After the bell had rung, insinuating lunch was over and we had to go to our fifth period class, I stood up and basically sprinted to the halls before my friends could ask me what happened at the vending machines.

It was nothing bad obviously but I know how they get and I don't need that right now. What I did need was to avoid Jack, at all costs.

I kept my head down as I tried my best to navigate through the halls without bumping into everyone. I was lucky for about a minute before I walked straight into someone's chest, knocking myself down.

"I'm so sorry" I said looking up, my cheeks flushed red with embarrassment.
"It was my fault, I should've seen you and moved out of the way"

He held his hand out which I thankfully took, helping me stand up. He brushed his hand on his red letterman jacket before introducing himself.

"I'm Dalton.. by the way"
"Oh- uh- I'm Ariana"

We shook hands quickly, both of us opening our mouths to speak but closing them when the minute bell rang. Instinctively, I laughed out of awkwardness as did he.

"I've gotta go to class, I'll see you at the game?" He asked and I nodded, sliding a loose strand of hair behind my ear. He said his goodbyes before walking away in the opposite direction.

I turned my head back to watch him walk away, only to bump into yet another person when I faced forward.

"I just can't stop bumping into people can I?" I mumbled.
"Apparently not" She said smiling as she looked down at me.

"Santos"
"I prefer Y/N. I didn't fully introduce myself in Mr.Benjamin's class which is where you're headed right?"

I nodded and she laughed lightly.

"I may be new here but I'm pretty sure you're going the wrong way. His class is down that hall, last door on the right" She pointed down the hall, her bicep near my head.

My mouth went dry when she looked down at me, the closeness between us beginning to become unbearable. I snapped my head in the opposite direction and began walking the correct way to class.

"You don't want me to walk with you?" She asked as she caught up to me.

"No I can walk myself but thanks"

She nodded and waved me off before catching up to Violet, throwing her arm around her shoulder. I stared at them while they laughed and giggled their way into Mr.Benjamin's class.

When I walked into class I looked up at the white board to see the new seating chart posted. I scanned the white sheet for my name-

"Your last name is Grande? You're like 5'0"
Y/N said from behind me.
"Haven't heard that one before" I said lightly punching her arm.

"What- I'm on the other side of the class? Benjamin why am I not next to Santos?" Violet asked annoyed at the seating chart.
"Because you guys talk too much"

Violet groaned before taking her seat.

Y/N set her stuff down on the ground as did I.
"Clear everything off your desks, we're having a surprise pop quiz" Mr.Benjamin said happily as he passed out the small packet of paper to each student.

I watched as Y/N leaned forward and waved to Violet with a smile, earning a middle finger from the other brunette.

"I'm about to fail this quiz"
