Chapter 14: Hairspray

Y/N's POV:

I quickly ran inside and gathered some things: a tent, my projector, a few movies, and snacks.

My mom surprisingly wasn't suspicious of what I was doing, either that or she didn't care enough to bother asking.

The tent was the first thing I had set up, only to run back inside after I realized I forgot pillows and blankets. In the midst of setting up my bed for the next couple of hours, I almost died when Ariana peeked her head over the fence and began speaking.

"Oh my god, wait, I have a tent too" She said with pure excitement spread across her face.
"What're you waiting for? Go get it and bring popcorn"

She jumped off what I'm assuming was a step ladder and sprinted toward her sliding glass door.

While Ariana was busy, I somehow managed to find an angle for the projector so the both of us could see it from our backyards.

15 minutes had passed and Ariana had yet to return from gathering her things and I was damn near done with setting everything up.

I stood in an awkward position against the fence as I decided between the few movies I had brought out.

"Hairspray"

I physically jumped out of fear, hearing her giggle after seeing my reaction.

"Please stop doing that" I begged with closed eyes, a smile forming on my lips when she failed to hold in her laughter.

I held up the three DVDs so she could see before reading off the titles, "I don't have hairspray, just: Mamma Mia, Midnight Sun, and my personal favorite, Divergent"

"I have it though, I haven't seen it in a while" She held up the DVD near her face with a smile that I couldn't ever say 'No' to.

My head fell back as a smile slowly crept back onto my face, "fine"

She cheered, handing me the disc before climbing off the ladder. I turned around and placed the disc within my PS4, clicking play and leaning back onto some pillows I laid out.

Just as the movie began, a juice pouch hit my chest and I heard Ariana giggle.

"What the f- a caprisun?"
"You're welcome" She whispered semi-loudly and we both laughed.

"Do you have popcorn?"

"Yeah but I can't exactly toss it over"

"Pass it through here"

Her hand stuck through a hole in the fence and I passed her the bag, waiting for her to grab some before going back to my bed.

After 'The Nicest Kids In Town' played, Ariana asked me to pause the movie so she could run to the bathroom and get a refill on her snacks.

'Violet💛: hi:)'

I smiled down at the message for a moment then replied with something similar.

She almost instantly responded to me,
'Violet💛: do u wanna get breakfast with me Monday?'

Before I could reply she had sent another text.
'Violet💛: like a date:)'

My smile only grew wider after reading her messages. I sent back, 'I'd love to, 7?'

'Violet💛: it's a date, see u at 7'

A voice spoke up suddenly, making me physically jump for the 3rd time tonight, "Who're you texting?"

"I dislike you so much tonight" I said to Ariana after locking my phone and tossing it to the side.

"I'm sorry but it's so easy to scare you"
"Yes because you randomly sneak up on me and peek over the fence when I least expect it"
"Exactly, because it's easy to scare you"

When I rolled my eyes she began laughing.

"I'm tired of using the ladder to scare you, I'm coming over"

I stared at the fence where she previously stood, confused.

"Coming over? What do you mea- oh-"

She opened the fence door and walked into my backyard.

"I wasn't aware we had one of those"

"Shut up," She paused to throw a pack of gushers at my face before continuing, "anyway, start the movie again"

I rapidly blinked, trying to process what just happened. "Thanks for the gushers idiot" I smacked her in the face with an extra pillow and resumed the movie.

"You're gonna pay for that Y/N"

I looked over at her to see her smiling at me, licking my lips before speaking, "Shut up"

We both stared at each other trying to bite back smiles but it was no use because we bursted out laughing when we heard Jax scream from the kitchen.

"Fuck" He yelled again, a loud bang following his scream.

"What happened?"
I shrugged, "He probably lost in Madden is pissed. I might need to buy another controller so he could play 2K with me because I'm assuming he just broke his. Anyway, let's watch the movie"

I pushed play on 'Hairspray' and before we knew it, 'Ladies Choice' started.

I watched as Ariana stood up and began to imitate Link, using a water bottle as a mic.

"Hey little girl with the cash to burn" She pointed to me with her left hand as she held the half-full bottle with her right hand.
"Well, I'm selling something you won't return"

She used her free hand to pull me up off the ground before continuing along with the song, rotating her hips simultaneously with Zac Efron, "Shake those hips in my direction"

We began laughing, me a bit harder than her as she tried to keep up with the music. When we finally caught our breaths, the end of the song had came around.

"Hey little girl, on a spending spree, I don't come cheap but the kisses come free"

She stared doing the choreography to the song and I joined in, taking her by surprise.

"I've been in love with Zac since 2006, of course I know this song, you?"
"I love musicals"

Ariana's POV:

I didn't want the night to end but eventually we settled down and ended up falling asleep to Pitch Perfect.

I'm assuming I fell asleep first because I woke up with my head on Y/N's chest, her arm resting across my back with a blanket on top of us.

The morning sunrise along with my mom yelling my name made me jump up. I quickly removed Y/N's arm from my body and shook her awake before rushing inside to avoid getting yelled at by my mom.
