Y/N's POV:

I got ready for my date with Violet, I wasn't sure where we were going exactly, she wanted to keep it a secret as much as possible. Unsure of what to expect, I didn't know what to wear either, so I kept it simple: jeans and a cardigan.

I drove to her house, letting her get in the driver seat while we headed to our date location.

The car ride was a bit awkward at first, neither of us had said anything as the music played quietly in the car. I had a weird feeling about today, but I couldn't figure out exactly why. Eventually conversation came naturally, and we couldn't shut up.

"The beach?" I asked and she nodded, grabbing my hand and leading us to a spot on the sand not too far from the water. The sun began to set and the sight was beautiful.

"I um--I wish we could've came here on better terms," She sighed.

I looked at her confused, "What do you mean?"

Her head fell and she started to play with the sand, picking it up and letting is slide through her fingertips before picking up more and repeating the process.

"I'm leaving" She admitted quietly, my heart subtly sinking at the realization.

She suddenly looked at me, smiling as she said, "I got accepted into my dream school"

"Congratulations, what school?" I asked, watching as her smile dropped again.

"It's an art school, in France Y/N"

I looked at her confused, "Why France? I mean obviously it's probably a great school, but why so far?"

"I've been wanting to go since I was a kid, it's what I've been working for since I first started drawing I--I have to go. This isn't how I was intending on today going, I actually wanted to hang out with you and have a real date finally, but I start class on Monday" She stated simply.

My eyes nearly fell from their sockets at the confession.

"Monday? What does that mean Violet?"

"It means," She paused, reaching for my hand, "My flight leaves in an hour"

Tears welled up in the both of our eyes, neither of us wanting to say the dreaded word.

"I can't tell if you're being serious or just fucking with me right now" I admitted, earning a laugh from Violet, trying my best to ease the situation but it wasn't really helping.

She hesitantly stood up, embracing me in a hug as her warm tears hit my chest.

We walked to my car in silence, her grip on my arm tightening the closer we got.

"I'll drive" I said, unlocking my car doors but she didn't move from in front of me.

Violet's car pulled up behind mine, who I assumed to be her mom driving it, the backseat packed down with a few bags and suitcase. I turned my attention back to Violet, giving her a confused look and she just smiled.

"I really wanted a chance with you but time and life was just not in my favor I guess," She chuckled, her hand reaching up to caress my cheek as tears continued to fall from her eyes.

"You're absolutely perfect and I'm so sorry for hurting you"

She got on her tiptoes, leaning in to kiss me. I closed my eyes and welcomed it, only for her to kiss my cheek, her lips lingering as my eyes remained shut. I grabbed her hands, smiling once more as we shared eye contact.

"This is goodbye Y/N"

Taking a deep breath, she let go our connected hands and walked away without looking back.
