Chapter 19: Switch!

Y/N's POV:

Things between Ariana and I didn't get any better and neither did things between Violet and I. But to my surprise, basketball couldn't be going any better. Jordyn and I made a great team.

Our last class period of the day just finished and I couldn't be more happy.

The bell rang and I packed my things up, making eye contact with Ariana on the way out, accidentally bumping into Jordyn who was waiting outside for me.

"Do you wanna hang after practice?" I asked as I looked over.

"Uh—," she paused, "Yeah? I don't think I have anything planned. Dalton was gonna borrow the car to hang with his friends after so I'm down"

"Okay great, there's a new arcade that opened up like 20 minutes away if you wanna check it out with me? If not we can do something else"

She just smiled and nodded in agreement, "Yeah, that sounds great"

We headed to the locker room and changed into our practice gear, lacing up before moving to the baseline.

"Alright ladies, let's start with our stretches" I yelled out as we began to stretch.

The gym doors had opened and in came the cheerleaders with their bags and coaches to follow behind.

"What's going on?" I whispered to Jordyn beside me.

"Oh, the sprinklers get turned on every Monday and Wednesday so we share the gym with the cheerleaders from now on" She explained.

"Switch!" Jordyn yelled and we did as we were told.

Ariana didn't bother looking at me the entire way to the opposite side but Violet couldn't keep her eyes off of me.

"Toe touches!" Ariana called out and all the girls followed, including the basketball girls.

After a minute or so, I called out the next, "Lunges!"

Once again, all the women in the gym obeyed my order, Ariana included. I glanced over to catch Ariana staring, her cheeks beginning to turn red.

We then lined back up and began sprinting from baseline to baseline. My face slowly turned red as well but I wasn't sure if it was because of Ariana's glare or the heat inside of the gym mixed with the running.

I shrugged off the feeling and continued practice per usual. After we finished, we headed to the locker rooms to shower and get dressed in regular clothes before heading out.

"Give me a few, I'll be out soon" Jordyn called out and I gave her a thumbs up, heading back inside the gym and taking a seat on the bleachers while I waited.

Mindlessly, I scrolled through my phone until I heard footsteps quickly approaching.

I looked up to see Ariana walking toward me with a stoic expression, she didn't even bother to glance at me.

I thought she was finally ready to speak to me but it turns out she was grabbing the hydro flask of hers that was sat behind me.

"Hey"

I snapped my head toward the voice that spoke up, hoping it was Ariana but it wasn't, Jordyn came out to let me know we could leave.

"I'm ready when you are" She said with a wide grin as her hands fell to rest on her hips in the process. I silently nodded and followed close behind her on the way out.

'You' by Lloyd started playing from my phone before Jordyn skipped it, letting 'In The Morning' by J.Coke begin.

I didn't say anything, quietly singing along to her music as I drove. 'I'm Ready For You' by Bryson Tiller was next, 'When You're Ready' by Shawn Mendes after, and 'Love Songs' by Kaash Paige played before I started to get suspicious.
