December 2022

Jesse was in the middle of filming Chicago PD's tenth and final season. They were about to break for winter hiatus, they had just a few shoots left before they broke for the holidays. They had just one big action scene before they broke. And it didn't go to plan, well at least not the way Jesse had planned which is why he was sitting in a triage room in the Emergency Department at Rush University Medical Center when he looked up to see his brother in law Dr Ryan Tenney standing in the doorway. Jesse just shook his head.

"Where is she?" He asked.

"You're in the clear...for now. She's finishing up a surgery."

Jesse shot him a look.

"Don't worry. I'm not telling her, but she'll find out. Word travels fast in this hospital especially considering they shoot Chicago Med here."

Jesse nodded his head.

"And I'm pretty sure you're not going to be able to hide those injuries from her"

"I didn't plan on hiding them from her, I was just hoping I could come and go without her noticing."

Ryan just shook his and laughed, coming further into the room, inspecting Jesse's injuries.

"Alright this doesn't look too bad, you won't need stitches, we can just steri-strip it.," he said looking at Jesse's face before he started inspecting his left shoulder. "This on the other hand" He tried moving Jesse's arm but Jesse winced in pain. "Yeah that's definitely dislocated. It's got to be put back in place. I can do it, but you'll need to follow up with an ortho. Im sure Abbey will have a preference. I can get Leah in here with some pain -"

Jesse cut him off, just shaking his head.

"Just do it. Just get it over with."

"You sure?"

"Yeah. Just do it Ryan"

"Alright. "

Ryan quickly popped Jesse's shoulder back in place. Ryan was actually pretty impressed how well Jesse took the pain but he wasn't going to just let him take the pain cold turkey either. He looked up and started giving orders to someone in the doorway.

"Get me 30 milligrams of oxy and mobilized shoulder sling" he ordered.

By the time Jesse looked up, whoever it was was gone but in just a minute Leah came back through the doorway with her hands full, placing what was in her hands on the tray beside the exam bed Jesse was seated on as Ryan went to work on placing steri-strips on the cuts on Jesse's face.

Leah handed Jesse a pill and a small cup of water.

"First things first," she said as she watched Jesse place the pill in his mouth and then take the cup of water from her as he slung his head back swallowing the pain pill and water. He handed her the empty cup which she placed on the tray and went to place his shoulder gently in the sling. He grimaced and she felt bad for her brother in law. She knew he was in pain but he always took whatever pain he was dealt in stride. Less than two years ago, he had laid on an operating table for over half a day fighting for his life.

"Don't worry. I haven't said anything to her" Leah said after securing Jesse's arm in the sling and placing an ice pack on his shoulder.

"Is that because she's still in surgery and you haven't seen her to tell her?"

"Hey ye have little faith in me. Even if I have seen her, I still wouldn't have told her. You're a patient there's such a thing as patient confidentiality."
