you sat in your desk for the student council meetings. it was a work period for the school dance, so you were busy designing the flyers and bouncing ideas with the other members.

the room echoed with chatter, and you took part in it, laughing with your friends as you worked.

"y/n."

you almost rolled your eyes at the overly peppy voice.

"hi, kasumi." you answered respectfully. you were polite, despite hating her.

"how's the flyer going? are you able to make it?" she gave you a fake smile. "if you aren't, i can do it! no worries."

you made yourself laugh as if she'd just told a joke, then blinked your eyes at her innocently. "don't worry about it. i can do it."

she leaned down towards you. "let me see!"

you sighed and moved to the side, letting her look at the design for the flyer you had been working on. you'd incorporated some of your own original art in addition to the information that was required. you liked drawing, so you wanted to contribute some of your skills.

"you're missing the location," she said immediately, her tone suddenly harsh.

"i'm going to add it later," you said back politely, even though you thought the location was obvious and didn't need to be on the flyer. everyone knew the dance was in the school's gym. she nodded. you watched her look over your work and point out things that made no sense because she wanted to make herself look better than you. it got to the point where just the sight of her annoyed you.

"all this preparation for the school dance is making me so excited for it!" kasumi clapped her hands together. "i wonder how kuroo is going to ask me to be his date."

you raised your eyebrows at this. he was inviting her to the dance? or was she just being possessive? you felt a pang of jealousy in your chest, but you quickly swallowed your feelings down.

kasumi kept talking. "he's so perfect. i never thought i'd find such a perfect match for myself."

you bit your tongue, taking deep breaths to quell the urge to shout that he didn't belong to her. he didn't even like her.

"is someone gonna ask you to be their date, y/n?" kasumi asked with faked politeness. she looked you up and down quickly, and you picked up traces of disgust on her face.

your stomach dropped in embarrassment. that was the last thing you wanted her to ask.

"no," you said. "i think i'll go by myself this year."

"aww. again?" kasumi's eyes burned into you, reminding you that you were below her. and she was right. maybe you'd kissed kuroo, but kasumi had done more than that. she'd had all of him. he'd had all of her. it was frustrating.

you pushed all of your insults down, and gave her a smile. "yeah," was all you could say.

kasumi got up, brushing off her skirt as if sitting next to you had made her physically dirty. she twirled her hair in her fingers and blinked down at you innocently.

"well. that's unfortunate."

with that, she walked off to the front of the room, announcing to you that student council was over and that you could go to your next class. you sighed, packing up your things and putting your computer back into your backpack.

the door opened behind you as the entirety of the student council packed up their things. before you could register who it was, kasumi shouted it out for you.
