He's sketching again.

For the second time this week.

"Steve," You yawn tiredly, rolling onto your side in the bed you and your fiancé share. "Your pencil is being unnecessarily loud."

The man sitting beside you in bed chuckles at your comment, his worn down looking sketchbook and a tray of pencils in his lap evidence of his scribbling.

"I'll tell it to be quieter," He replies sarcastically, earning an eye roll from you as you prop yourself on one elbow, peering at Steve's artwork.

It's a surprisingly detailed sketch of the outside of the New Avengers Complex, though the windows are currently being shaded in.

"You're drawing that from just your memory?"

"Yeah."

"Impressive."

"I guess so."

You yawn once more, flopping down against your pillow, your gaze wandering the ceiling as the sound of pencil against paper fills the silence once again.

"What's bothering you?" You hum aloud, as the sound of pencil stops momentarily before it resumes even harder than before.

"Nothing," Your fiancé answers much too quickly as you chuckle inwardly.

"You've never been a good liar," You inform, rolling onto your side again, your gaze meeting his fatigued blue one.

"I can't sleep," Steve just shrugs, his brows furrowing in concentration as he refocuses on his artwork.

"I know you can't sleep. And whenever you can't sleep, you sketch," You explain, cracking a small smile before it twists into a genuine frown. "You've been two nights in a row now, Stevie... I'm worried."

Now it's his turn to pass you a small smile, though it evidently is forced.

"No need to worry about me, Love," Steve assures, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder as if to physically reassure you. "But I, however, am currently worrying about you. Shouldn't you be asleep by now?"

You groan in protest, huffing in annoyance at his change in subject.

"Like I said earlier, your pencil is too loud."

"How would you like me to fix that?"

"Put your sketchbook away and sleep," You suggest, readjusting yourself so you're comfortable on your back. "Or at least maybe just cuddle me."

You hear the man beside you sigh as his weight shifts slightly, the sounds of the nightstand's drawer on his side of the bed being opened and closed.

And then, before you know it, a pair of strong arms are firmly wrapped around your waist, pulling your side closer into his chest.

"You're right," Steve yawns, though he seems to fight it momentarily as he settles into the covers, still holding you. "Maybe I should try and sleep."

"You know I'm right, Rogers," You chuckle softly, reaching up towards his face and absentmindedly tracing his jawline.

"Yeah, I do."

A comfortable silence falls between the two of you as the hands of sleep begin to grab at you both, your breathing beginning to slow and become even.

However, before you succumb to sleep entirely, the familiarly comforting sound of your fiancé's soft snores and the feeling of his now relaxed frame against yours brings a smile to your lips.

A smile that lasts, even as you drift off into a well deserved, peaceful and uninterrupted slumber.
