Prompt: Just an idea that's been floating around in my head. (Ooh. Look at me getting fancy with GIFs now.)

"You're sure this is the right place?" You muse aloud, raising a questioning eyebrow towards your longtime friend and Partner who's standing beside you beneath the warm afternoon sun.

"It's the address that was on the paper," Steve chuckles, tossing you a small grin, taking your hand in his, guiding you both towards the somewhat run-down looking building in your path.

Pushing open the door and stepping into the foyer, you stifle an audible gasp of surprise.

The foyer is lavishly decorated with white marble floors and matching a matching countertop gracing the reception desk, a petite looking woman with bright red lipstick on, eyeing the pair of you suspiciously from behind the slab of marble.

You nudge the man holding your hand gently as if to snap him out of his momentary daze, which works, both of your forms moving in sync towards the woman.

"Last name?" She questions, pursing her lips as she waits for Steve's reply, drumming her fingernails against the marble countertop.

"You should have us under 'Gamble'" He replies smoothly, not missing a beat in the conversation.

He's gotten better at this undercover stuff.

Resisting the urge to smirk, you simply nod your thanks as the receptionist hands your presumed 'husband' the room keys, motioning in the direction of the elevator.

"Great. Thank you."

The woman with her cherry red lipstick just dips her head, gaze raking over our backs as we turn and head on our way.

"She's on to us, or something," You hiss under your breath as Steve gently pushes you further into the elevator, the doors whisking shut and leaving you both in a rather awkward silence as the lift continues upward.

"You know, they used to play music," Your Partner muses quietly, instinctively snaking an arm around your waist and pulling you into his side as a new newcomers step into the elevator, eyeing you both over.

"Yeah. I wonder why they stopped," You reply with a light laugh, the grip around your waist tightening slightly as the man nearest you begins to shift closer to your other side.

The elevator is filled with a heavy silence, the only sound keeping you company coming from the various whirs of the cables and the chimes of the floors.

Which, as the mechanical voice calls out, "Floor five," your Partner hastily ushers you out of the lift and into the deserted hallway, leaving the people in the elevator behind.

"You can let go of me now, Steve," You gently mumble, tapping the arm still fastened around your waist twice, signalling to him that he should ease up his grip.
