Prompt: In honour of none other than James Buchanan Barnes' birthday (which is March 10th,) I figured I would write this random thingy. So... yeah.

****

Of course.

Whenever you plan something it always goes downhill.

It always starts off looking great - everyone is available on the day you set aside, the weather is looking good.

But, things around the Avengers Complex have a tendency to do a complete 180 on a dime, and much to your chagrin, that's exactly what happened to your plans yet again.

See, it's March 10th.

A rather insignificant day on the average person's calendar, including yours.

Until you met him.

Born March 10th, 1917, James Buchanan Barnes, better known as Bucky to you and the rest of the Team, should be long gone according to any logical thinker.

However, Bucky's been through hell and back, which ultimately managed to extend his life - for whatever reason that may be.

I guess his time on planet Earth isn't quite done yet.

Regardless, March 10th is now a special day.

It's Bucky's birthday.

And originally, you fully intended to have thrown him a nice party with the help of Steve and Sam to pull everything together.

They were so eager to help, but when the call was made that the Team was needed somewhere in India, both of them had to unfortunately retract their assistance.

At first, it didn't seem so bad.

You could always just do it before everyone left, right?

Nope.

Rain.

Three days straight and counting.

So now that leaves you and Bucky completely alone with an entire Complex to yourselves.

On his birthday.

In the pouring rain.

With added thunder and lighting of course.

Oh, and wind.

"Hey Buck?" You holler from where you're laying on the couch, watching the rain fall against the skylight above you, the lighting dancing across the sky on the rare occasion.

The sound of familiar footsteps sound from behind you, as yet another familiar looking face appears over yours, his lips twisted upwards into a goofy grin.

"Yes, Doll?" Bucky chuckles softly, as you clamber to a sitting position, making room for your companion to join you at your side.

"I had a party all planned out for you, you know," You sigh, frowning slightly as your gaze meets his blue one.

"I did hear something about that, yeah," He smirks, earning a playful jab to the ribs from you.

"Of course you did. Who told you? Nat?"

"No one told me. You all just talk way too loud."

Rolling your eyes, you cross your arms across your chest with a huff, continuing.

"It was supposed to be a surprise, but now that the cat's out of the bag... Steve and Sam were helping me get it all together. We had everything planned out to a tee. Heck, we even bought way to much food that's all gonna go bad now if no one eats it," You explain with yet another sigh, your gaze wandering to the skylights and the dark clouds that follow.

"I'm sure we'll get around to eating it eventually," Bucky assures, slinging his good arm around your shoulder, pulling you into his side.

"It was gonna be all set up outside, that way you wouldn't feel uncomfortable with so many people in one area," You continue to elaborate, pouting as your party planning thoughts begin to surface. "But then it decided to rain forever. Maybe we should start building an Ark."

"Ha, ha," The man beside you hums sarcastically, though his tone softens as you lean your head against his chest so you're looking directly up at him.

"Did I ever tell you that you have wonderful facial features?" You muse aloud, half joking, half serious.

"Not until just now, no."

"Well you do."

"Thanks?"

"What? Can you not just take a compliment?"

"Isn't that what I just did?"

"Oh geez," You laugh lightly, your disappointment at the lack of a party beginning to fade as a new happiness starts to fill you. "You can be so clueless sometimes."

"If you say so," Bucky chuckles, gently laying his prosthetic hand on top of your head, his fingers beginning to play with your hair.

The sounds of the storm raging outside begin to pick up as the pair of you simply sit there, on a couch in the middle of the living room, your head now basically sitting in Bucky's lap, his hand in your hair.

It's an odd, rather maybe questionable, position.

But, lucky for you both, no one else is around to question anything.

"What did you want for your birthday, anyways?" You ask softly after awhile, the sensation against your scalp ceasing for a moment as the man above you ponders his next words.

"Nothing much, really," He finally replies after a bit of hesitation, his steely blue eyes resting contentedly on you. "I've already got what I want."

You just watch, stifling a giggle, as he presses a finger to your nose, tapping it once before pulling away - likely ridiculous looking grins on both our features.

"Me?"

"Yes, Y/N," Bucky laughs genuinely, a rare smile spreading across his handsome facial features as he resumes playing with your hair once more, carefully pulling you closer against his chest as he murmurs one final word:

"You."
