A/N: Not quite sure what this is... but let's roll with it. It's late. I'm tired. Mentally drained from school... This update is totally self-indulgent. Whoops.

****

You had always been someone who was able to help people whenever they needed it most.

Someone feeling down?

You'd cheer them up, by playing a game with them, talking, making their favorite snack, going on a walk...

You're always so upbeat and optimistic, Tony's always called you Steve's long-lost sister.

Whenever you're around, the Avengers Complex always has a positive, happy aura to it.

Whenever you're around, people always feel better about themselves, and keep themselves busy, usually keeping the others busy as well.

Busy from mulling over one's thoughts.

Thoughts that can often lead to not so nice emotions and painful memories.

But yet, here you are, sitting on the floor of your room at the Complex, scattered Mission files surrounding you, tears pricking your eyes, your thoughts trying to get the best of you.

"No, I don't want to be sad right now. I can't be," You murmur aloud to no one in particular, hugging your knees against your chest, wiping a stray tear that had somehow fallen.

I can't be.

I have no reason to be sad.

Everyone else in this building has valid reasons to be. I certainly don't.

Releasing a shaky sigh, you gather the loose papers, slipping them back into their designated folders, before making your way to your feet and padding softly out into the hallway, door shutting softly behind you.

Maybe it's the time of night that's getting to you.

Maybe it's the fact that it was a busy day, helping keep everyone's spirits up after Nat, Rhodey and Tony has all gotten back from a Mission that didn't go as planned.

Maybe it's because you'd been on your feet since the minute they touched the floor this morning, running a few errands, helping Cap begin to compile some old records...

Huffing lightly and stifling a yawn, you continue your way down the carpeted hallway, your bare feet barely making any noise against it.

Now, even at 1AM in the morning, you're finishing up today's tasks, after having finished creating the next few Mission folders and their designated teams.

All that's left to do now is just put them back in the basket in the Briefing Room.

Then, and then, finally, you can crawl into bed and go to sleep.

Wincing as your feet make contact with the much cooler tile flooring heading into the kitchen on your way past, you grab a glass of water and take it with you, not entirely sure why.

Just going with it, you continue on - Folders in one hand, a glass of water in the other.

The Briefing room is on the ground level, requiring you to descend down a rather elegant looking flight of stairs in the daytime, leading to a rather open concept foyer at the bottom.

Designed as a reception area for any guests that may want to drop by and check up on the activities that you Avengers might be up to.

But as you halt momentarily at the top of the stairs, looking out through the floor to ceiling windows, with rain drops adorning the glass, you can't help but allow a momentary feeling of loneliness and sadness tug at your bones.
