Ballad

At McKinely In The Choir Room

Everyone was in the choir room talking while Jesse's brothers were watching her not liking that she called herself a freak. Will walks into the room and he writes down 'Ballad' on the whiteboard. "Ballad." Will said to everyone and he turns to the teens. "From Middle English, balade. Who knows what this word means?" Will asks them and Rachel puts her hand up. "It's a male duck." Brittany said to him. "Kurt." Will said after Brittany gives a wrong answer. "A ballad is a love song." Kurt said to him. "Sometimes, but they don't always express love. Ballads are stories set to music—which is why they're the perfect storm of self-expression. Stories and music are the way we express feelings that we can't get out any other way. Okay, now, sectionals are in a few weeks and there's a new rule this year– we have to perform...a ballad." Will said to them. "Looks like my weekly letter to the Ohio Show Choir Committee finally paid off!" Rachel said to them happy. "Shut up." Sebastian said to her. "Sebastian, not the time." Will said to him making Sebastian nod. "Okay. So here's our assignment for the week: I'm going to pair you off, and I want you to pick a ballad to sing to your partner." Will said to them and he kneels down to Jesse. "Look them right in the eye, find the emotion you want to express, and make them feel it." Will said to her making Jesse nod still sad and Will can see it. Jamey and Sebastian told him about the way she is so he made a plan for that. "I pick Quinn." Finn said to him. "No, no, no. Too easy. Your partners will be chosen by fate." Will said to them and he walks to the piano with the hat on it as everyone goes 'Oooh'. "Ooh, yeah. I put all your names in this hat. Whoever you choose is your partner." Will said to them. "But Matt's out sick today. He had to go to the hospital, 'cause they found a spider in his ear." Santana said to him making everyone, not like the sound of that. "Um...I guess I'll just have to put my name in the hat for now." Will said to them and he puts his name in the hat. "Who's up first?" Will asks them and Puck stands up while everyone makes drums with their hands. Puck takes out a name and reads it. "Mercedes." Puck said to them. "All right." Will said as Puck walks back to his seat. Artie wheels over and takes a name. "Quinn." Artie said with a smile while Quinn was smiling too. Artie wheels back as Jesse walk to the front. "Stop right there." Will said to her making Jesse look at him. "Everyone..." Will said looking at everyone. "My daughter is having a hard time so she will not be singing." Will said walking over to Jesse. "Jamey and Sebastian will be singing to her." Will said making Jesse look at her brothers who give her a smile as everyone claps while Jesse walks back to her seat. Jesse looks at her brothers who gives her a smile as Kurt walks to the front. Kurt takes a name and reads it. "Jamey" Kurt said to them with a smile. Kurt walks back as everyone cheers for him and Kurt gives Jamey a hug. Kurt sits down and he gives Jesse a hug from behind making her smile as Finn walks to the front. "Quinn" Finn said with a smile making everyone clap as he walks back to Quinn. Tina walks up and takes a name. "Other Asian." Tina said to them making Mike look at her as Santana walks to the front. "Brittany." Santana said making Brittany claps happily. "How fitting." Sebastian said to everyone as Santana walks back. "Looks like I get you, Mr. Schue." Rachel said as she walks over to Will with the siblings' eyes on her. "Uh... you know what? Maybe we should just wait until Matt gets back." Will said to her knowing it was a bad idea. "The fates talked, Mr. Schue." Puck said to him making everyone laugh. "Would you mind clarifying what kinds of songs you want us to sing?" Artie asks Will. " Why don't you let Mr. Schuester and I demonstrate. Brad, "Endless Love" in B-flat, please. It's my favorite duet." Rachel said to them. "I really don't think that's an appropriate song, Rachel." Will said to her. "Why? It's a great song, and it's a perfect ballad." Rachel said to him. "Right, but..." Will said to her but Rachel cuts him off. "Great let's start." Rachel said to him and the band starts playing. Will looks at the others and his eyes lands on his kids who were not happy about what was about to happen.

Jesse watches Rachel who was walking over to her dad with love eyes making her feel uncomfortable.

Will puts a chair in front of him stopping Rachel from getting too close to him.

Will walks away from the chair with Rachel behind him.

The brothers look at each other and back at what was in front of them.

The song ends and Will was very uncomfortable at the way that Rachel was looking at him in the song. "Okay. Something like that." Will said to them and walks away while he clears his throat.
