The past few weeks have certainly become more interesting for you, mostly because of the start of a new school year back at that witch school just a magical portal away from your hometown Blytonbury.
Well...it isn't really the school year but more so the new students that had arrived with it, it was just a normal day at the animal shelter. You loved animals, especially dogs. So working here was a blessing with all the cute critters and four legged companions you could take care of until someone offered them a new home to be loved in. It was a rather quiet day and you were one of the few on staff when you noticed cooing noises coming from the pens.

Eager to help whatever customer just slipped in without your notice it wasn't long before you came face to face with three girls wearing similar clothes, although they all had different unique appearances you couldn't help but be enamored by the most peculiar of the bunch: A puce long haired girl with grey-like skin and one visible red eye that just drew you in.

Snapping back into a more professional doting worker you went to work and asked the two crouched over girls next to the puppy pen if they were interested in adopting. Sadly after the brunette tried to weasel her way out of giving you a direct answer the grey girl in the back proceeded to give you what you had been looking for.
"They're just here to waste time and look at animals, if you think they want to buy you underestimate how empty Akko's wallet is."

As she finished the brunette now known as Akko drawled out the name of the girl you had just been enamored by with her voice.
Sucy.
Once again having to snap yourself out of your distractions you had to remind yourself of the company policy: No window Shoppers, especially once it's clear they are just that and only that.

But...surely it wouldn't be that bad to let them stay for a while longer? Afterall it isn't like there are any other people here. With a smile you told them they would be allowed to continue looking at the pets as long as they wouldn't prove a disturbance to future customers. Akko and the girl with glasses both agreed and went back to their cooing as you continued making sure everything was doing alright in here.

"You're just asking for trouble, aren't you?"
Narrowlingly you grabbed the broom that almost fell towards the ground thanks towards you're shock of Sucy's sudden comment.
"W-What?"
Sucy only followed you with her one visible to pay any attention to you.
"Akko is the kind of girl to get herself into all kinds of trouble. But their chaos can be really fun."
As she smirked you saw how sharp her teeth were, almost forgetting you were talking to her.
"You still there?"
"O-Oh yeah! Sorry! ...I uh- doubt she bring us that much trouble!"
Her smirk disappeared as she looked forward.
"Your funeral."

An awkward silence was between you two while you continued staring at her. You wanted to continue to talk with this girl, she was just so interesting in such a abnormal way. Not badly meant of course!
"So do you have any pets? Or like any? Personally I'm a big fan of dogs! They're ju-"
"No to the first and neutral about the second. But I don't bother myself with that stuff much."
The little confidence you had gained trying to talk to her was gone faster then it was regained.
"Wou-Would you like to maybe see some of our more exotic animals? For an exotic girl?"
You mentally slapped yourself multiple times and was about to do the same physically if you didn't want to scare the girls even more, what the hell are you thinking? What are you even trying to do!
"Sure."
Cutting of your rant to yourself you looked on in surprise as Sucy stopped leaning against the wall.
"R-Really?"
She only shrugged.
"If they are as exotic as you say they might be useful enough for my use."
That made you cringe, as much as you didn't like to think what you thought she meant was what she actually meant you still would have to keep an eye out on her. But you still had hope she just had a peculiar way of talking for the most normal of things.

So you and her left the pens to go to the more enclosed areas of the building. Where less fluffier animals occupied the place. Though you were the kind of person to still love them as much despite the appearance, perhaps that's why you were so captivated by the girl following you.
Either a blessing or a curse Sucy monotonously shuffled around the room, giving the creatures in their glass containers a bored glance before moving on, as she looked about ready to come back to your side and say she wasn't interested a loud hiss interrupted the both of you.

without looking at the source of the sound you already knew who it was: Monty the Python, despite the humorous name Monty was not a snake you could watch a comedy flick with. Info was scarce about the creature's past ranging from being forcibly taken by illegal poachers to years of abuse in their previous environment as a rund of the litter. The only thing you got out of it was that the Python led a harsh life. And despite the best efforts of you and some of your colleagues Monty remains a isolated creature, neutral to you but frequently snapping at any customers passing by and scaring them out of the room, Sucy however walked up to the still hissing snake.

"I would be careful if I were you! Monty hasn't had the best life and is quite hostile!"
You called out to Sucy as you joined her side.
"Really?"
She asked, you nodded.
"Yeah...with how things are going some are afraid he'll never get a home...and that's just ignoring he's a large snake in a country like this."
Sucy hummed in understanding as she lowered her body to come face to face with the snake.
"Can I hold it?"
Sucy asked as she turned her head to face you.
"Whu- What?"

Standing up she spoke a little louder.
"Can I hold him?"
With you still in shock you shakingly put together a more extended response.
"Are you sure? He's not the cuddle bug and he is prone to biting..."
Sucy turned her body to the container.
"I won't sue you."
If you hadn't recovered from your previous shock who knows how you would ever recover now.
"What?!"
Sucy gave you a glare.
"Are you deaf? I won't sue you if anything bad happens. Now just let me hold him."
With a gulp you nodded and retrieved the items that would normally be used to bring Monty his food. Now you came with a little more to help Sucy incase things went...awry.

Thankfully Monty remained calm as you slowly brough him out of his residence. You couldn't help but give Sucy a dejected look as she didn't bother to equip the protective gloves you gave her. Before you could call her out on it she had already taken the snake from your hands. While you were busy holding the tools necessary to neutralize Monty if he went beyond his increasingly aggressive hissing you missed out on the faint smile Sucy had on her face.

But within a blink of an eye the aggravated Python lunged forward and bit Sucy in the arm. Before you could spring into action in the panicked state that was about to burst out Sucy motioned for you to stay. Once you did she looked back and started petting the Python as her smirk returned.
"Well aren't you a devious one~"
Somehow, for some reason. Monty relaxed and stopped biting into Sucy's arm. You let out a sigh of relief that you didn't need to pump the snake full of sleep inducing drugs again until your panic returned as blood started to seep out of Sucy's arm.

"Oh I'm so sorry! Monty shouldn't be poisonous but you should really check with a doctor!"
You told Sucy as you made an improv bandage around her arm while she carefully let the snake down back in it's container.
"Relax, I said I wouldn't sue you. Oh and I'll take him."
Stopping mid roll to look at her you could only find a genuine smile on Sucy's face.
"R-Really?"
You couldn't believe what you were hearing as she moved out of your range and pulled out a beaten up wallet.
"Sure, I like him. Anything else I would need? Food? Toys? Etcetera?"
With the words taken out of your mind you could only urge her to follow you as you brought Monty and the necessary items over to the cashier, gaining the attention of Sucy's companions who were back from their gushing.
"Hey Sucy! Are you actually buying so- ...THAT'S A REALLY BIG SNAKE!"
Akko said as she looked in shock at Monty, who had calmed down more then you ever saw him. Even with complete strangers.
"Unlike you I do have a stable income."

"That's nice and all...but I don't think Luna Nova accepts pets outside of familiars..."
The still unnamed girl mentioned as she looked more with concern at the snake.
"They can't refuse if they don't know it's here, otherwise a lies will do fine."
A part of you told you to stop the transaction right there on pure legal grounds and your suspicions...and yet you let it go on as the girls continued talking about Sucy's delinquency. You were just happy Monty had a chance at a home, And you did have a feeling Sucy would be the perfect caretaker of him just like the true smile she still had on her face.

Though you recovered yourself enough to finish the transaction and give some tips it was hard to keep focus whilst Sucy continued giving that cheeky smile at you until you were finally finished.
"Looks like you wouldn't have need to kick us out for being window shoppers."
She said as she began packing up her purchase, being more careful with Monty then her own movement.
"Y-Yeah, lucky me...or you?"
Sucy flashed her teeth as you felt your cheeks getting hotter then ever.
"I don't think I ever got your name despite you getting mine from Akko screaming it minutes ago."
Akko was quick to intervene after you told Sucy your name.
"And mine's Akko! Nice to meetcha!"
Sucy's smile disappeared as she glared at Akko, though you could still see a hint of it.
"Yes I just said that, are you also becoming deaf?"
Between the banter you could hear the girl with glasses introducing herself as Lotte before convincing the fighting two to leave the place before they could break something. As they left you could only hope to see more of them-especially Sucy...to make sure Monty was doing okay of course! ...And Sucy was still interesting to learn about and talk with...

And just like that she did. It started out as just some small talk for taking care of Monty. And you were pleased to hear that the only thing she "used" Monty for was his shed when it was obsolete for him or other residue. Which led to her talking about her potion business. Although you've never been quite the chemist it was interesting to hear what Sucy could tell you about it. You could hear her getting more into talking with you as time would go by and eventually days. What became Weekly visits became daily. Where you two would talk about whatever interested either of you until one day Sucy came in with something most curious after her daily visits started getting scarce again.

A very excited Doggy.
As soon as she placed it on the table you immediately started petting it all over it's adorable body, it wriggling around and basking in the affection.
"So where did you get this little guy? Or is it just Monty who drank one of your potions."
You asked as you noted it had no collar on.
"I don't do transformation potions, we have magic for that and they aren't nearly as interesting. As for the dog it won't stop stalking me."
"Really? You have any clue as to why?"
You looked up at Sucy while the dog began licking at your face.
"I found it on the street a few days after I met you...and decided to feed it. Now whenever I walk through town it follows me even after I give it food."
You're smile only got wider upon hearing that.
"I didn't knew you would be this good with animals, Sucy!"
On cue she looked away.

"I guess...it isn't too hard once you get the hang of it. Anyways the mutt actually showed me it's children, I thought you would like to see them too..."
You jumped up from your position behind the table as you heard the news. You would never take down a chance to go see some cute pups! Then again you were supposed to be doing your job...but it was nearing the end of the day and you doubted some if any people will still come down here. So as you handed the happy dog back to Sucy and quietly retrieved your jacket you were in a heartbeat following her to the mantle of puppies just waiting to be loved.

During your walk your excitement calmed down a bit and made you realize how Sucy sounded more quiet back then...or how she seemed to avoid your gaze even now...
Before you could contemplate further you bumped against her. Almost falling if it wasn't for Sucy's unbreakable posture.
"...We're here."
Looking over here you saw a alleyway with the dog that Sucy was holding wriggling out and once Sucy let go running into it as you decided to start following it.
And then you saw the cluster of three adorable pups among the trash. Immediately going in to pet them all. Oh how you wished you had more hands!

"This is great! Thank you so much Sucy!"
She crouched down with you as some of the pups started running around her too, she letting one finger trail around the fur occasionally.
"I hope you don't mind if I take these strays to the shelter. Once they're properly taken care of it won't be long before they can be taken care and loved for their rest of their life!"
Sucy gave a small nod as the rest of her head was covered by her hair.

You decided to continue petting the puppies and it's mom for a little longer until someone slapped you on the back of your head.
"Hey, what's the-!"
Looking back you saw Sucy with a raised arm giving you a small glare.
"You do realize you just followed someone you barely know into an isolated alley because of the promise of puppies?"
As the words entered your head you let out a blush of embarrassment. So much for self-preservation, huh?
"But hey! I don't consider you someone I barely know. There's a lot we talked together about that made us both learn so much about each other!"
As her gaze softened she looked away again.

"Yeah...I do like that about you...and that's why I was probably so protective over you..."
Sucy finally looked at you again, the sun going down behind her back perfectly reflecting over her and the dogs surrounding her like a beautiful painting. Even in the light you couldn't miss the blush.
"The thing is..."
She put her face into her hands.
"Ugh I'm so bad at this."
You shuffled over to her, holding onto her shoulders and rubbing them to try and comfort her.
"Hey, hey. It's fine. Just take time to get your words together."
As the hands went down the blush on her face was redder then ever...it was...cute, and you could feel a blush crawling up to you too.
"I think...I..."
Closing her eyes she took a deep breath before facing you with furrowed brows.
"I love you!"
As soon as she said what she wanted to say she turned around and hid her face in the fur of one of the picked up puppies playing around her, yet it's small size still made you see her blush and nervous lips.

Slowly you moved yourself around so your faces would meet each other, edging closer until you carefully laid the confused puppy down on her lap, letting it slide off as you could finally see her adorable face...and kissable lips.
Before she could do anything you connected your lips with her, savoring every taste as you kept your eyes closed and snaked your arms around her in a hug. Until you needed to breathe again, Sucy however looked like she could still go on. But also had a small smile on her face.
"I think I love you too!"
You said after taking one deep breath, trying to calm down your racing heart.

Sucy only hugged you again. Relishing in the bliss you had created together. No more words had to be said to confirm the obvious: You loved each other.

Who knew such a cold spirit could be so sweet?
