"Hey Yeona, be my partner?"
Yeona turned to her right and saw Donghyuck run up beside her.
"Of course," she smiled.
The pair entered the building, following the rest of their classmates in a large group. Everyone was eager to venture out and explore, their eyes widening in excitement.
"Now everyone, welcome to Seoul Museum of History," the teacher said. "I know you are all excited to look around but please, remember that you all have a research project coming up and this field trip is to help you with it. You all may go-"
Before the teacher could finish her sentence the students dispersed, scattering off into their own pairs and groups.
A few minutes passed, Yeona and Donghyuck walking together in silence as they examined the exhibitions displayed one by one.
The two stopped in front of a painting. While Yeona was busy looking at the painting in awe, Donghyuck kept stealing side glances at her, his hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans. He kept opening and closing his mouth, wanting to spark a conversation with the pretty girl but was too nervous.
Donghyuck was so busy with his own thoughts that he didn't even notice Yeona moving on to the next display. Not wanting to lose sight of Yeona, he hurriedly caught up with her.
"So um," Donghyuck bit the inside of his cheek. "What are you researching plan on?"
Yeona furrowed her brows, looking at him. "What?"
He blinked, a rush of heat flooding his cheeks as he blushed in embarrassment. "I mean- what are you planning on researching?"
Yeona laughed at his silly mistake, causing Donghyuck to laugh awkwardly along with her. She smiled up at him. "I'm not sure yet."
The two eventually stopped in front of another display, Yeona seeing a rather familiar picture of a castle.
She gasped, "Hey, that's the castle we visited!"Her eyes sparkled in excitement, scanning over the entire exhibition. She quickly turned to Donghyuck, "this is what my project will be on!"
Donghyuck smiled at the her, finding the excitement radiating off of her cute. "I'm glad you found something that you'll enjoy."
She hummed in agreement, quickly scanning the board filled of information that the museum had put up.
"What does it say?" Donghyuck asked leaning in towards her.
"Queen Yeona became queen at a very young age after both her parents died in a carriage accident that was thought to be caused by assassins. She was a very good and just queen, many people loved her. However, at age 26 she..." Yeona's voice grew quiet and trailed off.
Donghyuck furrowed his brows, "...she what?"
Yeona hesitated before continuing, "she commited suicide by drinking poison."
A heavy atmosphere grew amongst them, both silent and not knowing what to say. Donghyuck knitted his brows, confused as to why his heart ached so much at the news of the queen dying. He shouldn't be feeling like this for someone he doesn't know, yet alone a historical figure from centuries ago.
A sharp pain struck through Yeona's head and she winced, taking a step back. Donghyuck's eyes widened and he quickly caught her, "are you alright?"
A hot, bubbling sensation grew in Yeona's throat and she started coughing. Her eyes started to water and she felt as if she couldn't breathe.
Donghyuck held her, both his hands gripping around her arms. "Yeona, Yeona! Love, look at me." Her eyes locked into his. "I got you, okay? You're okay, just take deep breathes."
Yeona did as he told, eventually calming down as her heart rate went back to normal. She softly looked at him and smiled, "thank you."
"Anytime."
Yeona turned back to the board, her hand intertwined with Donghyuck's as a blanket of comfort covered her. "...The Queen was known to have a forbidden love with Ophoris' prince, Lee Haechan."
"Sounds like a handsome guy."
Yeona scoffed and rolled her eyes in amusement. "Prince Haechan was in a forced marriage with another princess thus leaving Queen Yeona with no spouse. Eventually, she could not bear to live with her lover gone and committed suicide. After her death her most trusted knight, Lee Minhyung, was appointed the next ruler of Sedia."
"Wow," Donghyuck awed. "That's some deep stuff."
"It is," Yeona agreed. "And I'm so excited to research more about it!"
Donghyuck smiled, happiness spreading through him as he spent more and more time with Yeona. For the rest of the trip, they stuck next to each like glue, casually holding one another's hand from time to time.
