Requested again by the amazing honkbailee_ thank you :))

Your eyes flicked down to the hand holding yours, grip so tight you were starting to go numb. He still didn't trust you.

You didn't blame him.

Today was a treat, according to him when he woke you up in the morning. A treat that you didn't deserve, but he was just kind enough to give you one, let you outside even though you kept breaking his rules. By outside, he meant Target, but that was more than you'd seen in months.

People pushed past you, the clattering of trolleys and baskets echoing in the building, constant talking suffocating you. It was just too much, all at once, and you knew Karl was somehow getting a power trip over it, seeing you be so helpless and in his control, easily moldable and manipulated to his liking. He practically dragged you along with him, pointing out his favourite foods, frowning when you just nodded. "A conversation involves two people, you know."

His eyes glinted dangerously, and you held back the urge to back away, slapping a strained smile on your face. "Sorry, I was...distracted."

"Good!" he answered cheerily, pulling you along with him again. You drowned it out, looking around and hoping that maybe someone, anyone would see your predicament. No normal couple held hands tight enough to bruise. "You're not looking at anyone else, are you?" he asked, whispering into your ear.

"No..."

"You're not going to leave me, are you? I won't let you. You're mine, right? You can't leave."

Biting your lip anxiously, you held his other hand, knowing that he was on the brink of a meltdown. In fact, you were almost tempted to just let him, let him cry and scream and yell, make a fool of himself in front of everyone, get the police called so that you could be saved. Still, you nodded your head. "I won't leave, I promise."

"Young lovebirds, huh?" An old man stood next to you, studying the shelves before grinning. "You better cherish them." He aimed that at Karl, winking and raising an eyebrow.

"Of course I will," Karl responded solemnly, and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, caging you in.

You wanted to cry at the irony of it. If only this man knew-if only this stupid man knew exactly what Karl did to you, then maybe he wouldn't be so quick to joke about with Karl. Almost as if sensing your discomfort, he waved at the man before leading you away, dropping everything he had picked up on your shopping trip. "I don't think going outside is good for you, you seem a little stressed."

And as much as you hated to admit it, he was right. Going outside would just remind you of what you couldn't have.

Freedom.
