Eret hated school. There was no point to it; the people were boring, and they had to smile and laugh and act normal, act as if they cared about any of it. It was tiring.
But to be seen as normal, that's what they had to do.
It was a normal day, boring and useless, nothing of interest even happening when they met you for the first time. Mood low, they walked over to their usual lunch table, greeting friends with a fake smile.
Only you were there.
As soon as your eyes met, they felt their heart rate increase rapidly, echoing loudly around their whole entire body, a flush covering their skin. They struggled to breathe, something blocking their throat. Palms sweating, they dropped the fork they were holding, wiping some of the sweat away with their sleeves frantically.
You couldn't see them like this, that would be embarrassing. Sighing in content, they gazed at your face, examining every feature: your smile, the way your eyes lit up whenever you spoke, the way you moved your hands while speaking...they loved it all.
They felt alive for the first time in their life, things seeming brighter and livelier. Taking deep breaths, they moved as close as they could to you, eavesdropping into your conversation.
"Yeah, the movies sound good! I've always wanted to see that," you said, and Eret felt their whole entire body stop for a moment, zoning out for the rest of your conversation before you walked off, cheerily waving at everyone. They managed a half-hearted wave before turning to look at the guy who had dared to ask you out on a date.
Vision flashing red, they resisted the urge to strangle him, instead stabbing their lunch with their fork, the cogs in their brain turning.
They had to have you. You had no choice. You were theirs.
Forever and ever.
