[ A few days later ]

Since Nat's birthday we've all just been casual about it and we didn't talk about it either. We tried to block it out every-time we were near Loki and Wanda, knowing them they would get suspicious and read our minds. Small missions would often come up but I didn't need to go, mainly the boys had it covered it weren't that big of a deal. Sam's sister's boat had broken down and James offered to go and help. I was bored in the compound and decided to join them.

I sat on the edge of the dock with my legs dangling down towards the water. I watched as Sam struggled now and then but James handled it like a pro. The way he would use his metal hand made me feel some type of way. Sarah who was Sam's sister walked towards me with a tray of mocktails she made. I took a glass giving her a warm smile.

Y/N: "Thank you"

She smiled back before glancing over at James then back at me. I gave her a curious look. She just grinned at me.

Sarah: "Are you two.."

I let out a chuckle before throwing my hand up in a stop gesture.

Y/N: "Absolutely not, why would you think that?"

Sarah: "Because you both keep exchanging looks and you're clearly checking him out"

I scoffed taking another sip from my drink looking out to sea. She snickered before walking over to the boys offering their drinks.

Sam: "Thanks, sis"

James then took his glass meeting with her eyes.

Bucky: "Thank you.. Sarah"

He had a flirt tone in his voice, Sam rolled his eyes. James trailed his eyes to me, studying my facial expression. I just glared at him, he was flirting with her to push my buttons, I just knew it. After a while James and Sam finally fixed the boat. We all stood around the deck talking. James still continued to flirt with Sarah in front of me, despite Sam giving him the death stare. Sarah traced her eyes to me, she knew exactly what was going on and she was giving me a told you so look but I ignored it.

Sarah: "Anyway, thank you so much.. how about the three of you stay for dinner? We're going to grill hotdogs when the sun goes down, the whole town gathers around the dock at sunset, it's a good vibe"

Sam and James looked at each other.

Sam: "I mean you know I'd never say no to hot dogs sis, what about you two?"

Y/N: "Sure why not! It'll be rude not too"

I answered for James. After a good few hours the sun started to set, a small gathering of neighbours and their children eating and drinking, soft music was playing in the background. I was sat on a table with Sarah finishing my food until I noticed James letting the kids pull on his metal arm. I couldn't help but smile. Sarah caught my smile as she turned to see what I was looking at.

Sarah: "He sure seems to be good with kids"

I snapped back to reality meeting with her gaze.

Y/N: "Uhm, sure.. yes I guess"

I felt a small tap behind my shoulder, I turned my body around to see a little girl standing in front of me, she smiled at me innocently. I gave her a sweet smile back.

Y/N: "Hi"

With a soft tone in my voice, she handed me a flower crown. I took it from her small hands.

Y/N: "Did you make this for me?"

She nodded, a group of little girls had gathered a bunch of flowers they were sitting down earlier making flower crowns. She spoke back to me.
