ERICA THOUGHT BEING on a pirate ship was supposed to feel weird

A part of her did feel weird but it was only a very small part of her, from having to go to the bathroom in a chamber pot and not really having access to clean water like she was used to (having to use a washcloth or jump in the sea to at least feel clean) but perhaps the weirdest thing was how normal it all felt, being on a ship and finally being able to do what she wanted and nobody questioning her or judging her for it.

Here she was just Erica Swan. Not the Future Dark One. Not someone who has killed two people already, thinking about it made her stomach twist and turn so she tried not to think about it too much

Not everyone liked her being on the ship (mainly Gibbs and it wasn't because he didn't like her personally, it was because of the silly superstition that having women on board would bring bad luck and they already had three if you didn't include Erica, and even when Jaclyn reminded the older man that she, a woman was his Captain he still regarded Erica with nervous eyes) but she didn't mind finding solace in Jaclyn, who delighted in the fact that she wanted to become a pirate and started to teach her the ways of piracy

Knowing what she was comfortable with and what perhaps she wasn't so comfortable with, such as stealing Jaclyn taught her things like how to read maps and how to navigate using the  stars, they started off small, often sitting on the deck of the ship after nightfall just naming the stars and stealing kisses in between and stumbling into the Captain Quarters at dawn

The blonde Sherriff was also getting better at holding a sword -- or at least she was able to hold it now without dropping it -- but she was determined to get better. To be better and so one night when the two of them were doing what they do best and just talking. Erica snuggled deeper into Jaclyn's arms

And she was getting a better hold of pirate life, learning how to live on the ship, what jobs were required to keep a smooth course and even though Jaclyn assured her she didn't have to do anything, she still felt as though she should pull her weight but haven't quite decided what she'd be good at and despite a spell of an uneasy stomach she was actually okay with living life out on the water. She enjoyed it actually.

It was rather freeing

The thing that confused her was when Jaclyn referred to the time in bells, momentarily forgetting that Erica wasn't used to the seafaring ways but Erica picked it up quickly four bells meant two in the morning at a night and six bells meant three, meaning that the people at the sea often used the bells to mark time but it was half the number of times the time that the bell rang

"Hmmm, Jackie?" She asks, not noticing the way that Jaclyn seems to brighten up at the way she got to hold the woman in her arms something that she had been dreaming about for a while now "You know how you said you would teach me how to fight with a sword?"
