ERICA DIDN'T MEAN for this to happen

It started with something as simple as swordplay with the pirates, something that was happening regularly nowadays with more intensity than ever. Jaclyn was pushing her harder than ever, wanting her to perfect her technique so she didn't have to rely on her magic all the time, as even magic didn't work all the time but what was reliable was a sword and dagger when one knew how to use one

When they were done, Erica quickly got swept away from her training session to her magic lessons and she was surprised to see both Triton and Calypso waiting for her, an easy smile on their faces that made something in Erica's gut curl

She was ushered into a tin bath and scrubbed clean of any dirt and sweat and when she was clean, she stepped out of the bath and put on drab robes that were not flattering at all and mute in colour, after that she stepped out of the small room where the bath was back towards Calypso and Triton, only to see three rings on the floor drawn out of chalk and interlocked with one another

There were also ancient markings on the floor around the circles and in the circle. It confused Erica as to what was happening but she bit her tongue to stop herself from asking questions because she knew that Calypso and Triton will explain to her what was going on

"Stand in a circle and close your eyes," Calypso instructed before she could even get a word out to see what was going on when she saw nobody was going to explain it to her. "Now breathe a deep breath in and hold it. I imagine you have seen your magic before this. Focus on how it feels running through your veins. Does it burn? Does it flow? Does it spark?"

Erica could feel her magic flowing through her easily enough. Since she had begun to take her magic more seriously, it was getting easier with every spell she performed. In the beginning, not a lot worked, but under the tutelage of Calypso and Triton, she quickly picked up the magic and then  with a lot of practice and patience she had learnt the basics

Now she was beginning to learn the more intricate magic and even older versions of magic -- ones that the Gods used themselves. It was Arcane Magic, the oldest form of magic around. It was apparently even older than Merlin himself (because go figure he's real too. Not that Erica was surprised, she had stopped being surprised by the things she thought were just fairytales and legend when Calypso showed herself)

The magic she felt was just on the dermis of her skin, wanting to be set free. But it listened to Erica this time and remained in her body waiting for its next instructions from its owner and Erica simply raised an eyebrow in the Goddesses and God's direction hoping they would actually tell her what to do with her magic

But the more they remained quiet, the more irate Erica became. Her patience was not what it once was, and sitting like this was like hell. She focused as hard as she could on the burning thrum of her magic beneath her skin.
