I play through the entire piece. I wince at every missed note transition. I have it mostly memorized, except for this part towards the end where I have to pluck. That part is painfully bad. As I come off the piece, there is someone clapping. It isn't Mr. Blackbourne. Dr. Green is standing in the door way.
"Long enough piece there sweetheart?" I nod, out of breath from standing in posture for so long.
"That was a good effort Miss Sorenson." He was sugar coating it, it was bad in every aspect to a violin player. i wince.
"Can I see the notes please?" He hands them over and I count. 47. I groan.
"What is wrong sugar plum?"
"47," I sigh, lost in thought over what is going to happen after tonight.
"47 what?' He asks, confused.
"Mistakes," Mr. Blackbourne and I say in unison. I bite my lip, stress and begin to fidget. It must be really obvious that I am stress because Dr. Green comes near me. He reaches out for me, then pulls away, thinking.
"What is going to happen if you make a few mistakes onstage?" I just stay quiet, not wanting to answer. They wouldn't like the answer.
"Well?" He wants the answer. The bell saves me. I rush out of the room.
