. . .

"What happened?" The nurse asked seeing my hands when me and Karter walked through the door to the nurse's office. "It's kind of a long story." I say nervously. "Well, it's going to take some time to bandage your hands." The nurse says while getting bandages and some sort of medicine cream. "So entertain me."

. . .

"So let me get this straight, you punched a wall because you were upset, and your friend here had to stop you?" The nurse askes gesturing to Karter who was sitting next to me. Karter nodded their head after taking a bite out of their sandwich. Karter left to go get our lunches earlier, even tho I can't really eat mine right now.

"Hey, that's not what I said." I say trying to move my hands. The nurse gives me a look so I place my hands back down so they can finish wrapping up my hands. "Oh really?" The nurse askes raising an eyebrow. "Than what did I leave out?" "The fact that I punched a wall because I was upset wasn't true." I say. The nurse stays quiet to let me continue. "I simply hit a wall, so I wouldn't hit a kid." I state.

"Ok." The nurse nods there head. "You punched a wall because you are upset, and have anger issues." "No!" I protest. "Karter, help me." I say turning my head to Karter. Karter just shrugs their shoulders then continues to eat their sandwich.

The nurse laughs next to me. "I was just kidding." They laugh. "And don't worry, I won't tell anyone you wanted to hit someone." The nurse finished wrapping my hands then winks at me. "Thanks." I say. The nurse nods their head, then walks over to their desk, takes out a binder, and starts going through it. "To be fair I had a good reason to want to but that kid, he's just lucky I didn't." I say glancing at Karter who I see glancing at me. "I'm sure you did." The nurse says, surprisingly not in a sarcastic voice, still looking through their book. "Whatchu looking for?" I ask. "Your parent's number." They say still flipping through the many pages in the binder. "Why would you need to do that?" I ask. "All I did was accidentally under my hands." The nurse looks up at me and stares at me for a second before going back to the book in front of them. "What did you say your name was again?" They ask. "Alex." I say. "Last name?" "Why? It's not like you need to call them." I try to cross my arms across my chest but can't bend my hands around my arms, so I just sit there awkwardly. I hear a snort from the other side of me. I look over and we Karter covering their mouth. I glare at Karter playful before I snort too.

"You obviously can't go back to class." The nurse says still looking at me. "I can walk." "But you can't write." "Well, I can't miss my afternoon classes again today." "How are you supposed to do work if you can't write? And you're already missing one right now." "I have work to turn in." "Karter can do it for you, or I can." "Well, I don't want to go home yet." "I'll watch Karter for you." I freeze. How did they?

"Oh, here it is!" The nurse says smacking their hand on a page. "How did you-?" I ask surprised.  "It's pretty easy when I know you had an old name, and know your actual name." I flinch. The nurse looks at me and smiles. I don't know if I should be glad the school changed my name? Or upset the nurse knows about my dead name...

"Cmon." The nurse says while punching numbers into the phone. At least they don't seem to mind? "Cmon, pick up." The nurse says tapping their nails on the desk. "Wait-" I try to stop the nurse but get cut if by them talking into the phone. "Hello! This is nurse Geo from-" "Are you Alex's guardian?" "Oh, that's wonderful!" "No he's good, well except-"

I tune out the nurse's conversation and turn to Karter. "I know I just said I would leave you and stuff-" "It's ok." Karter smiles at me. "I'm glad you're going home, cause now you can rest." Karter pats my head. "Hey wait." I smack their hand in my head. "You were supposed to be the one resting, not me." "I already had my share." Karter smiles at me. "You-" I smile back.

"Alright!" The nurse slams the phone down in place. "Your mom or dad should be here soon." I look over to the nurse and sigh. "Thanks." I mumble. "All part of the job." They smile at me. The nurse takes their glasses off and placed them back on the desk. "You can stay here with Karter until Alex leaves of course." I look over at Karter and see them rapidly nodding their head. "Y-yes please, t-thank you." Karter says when they stop nodding their head. I look back over to the nurse who's giggling. "No problem." Then the nurse becomes serious. "I do need to check your injuries anyway." Karter freezes.
