Derek's POV

''Hello!'' Meredith shouted as she sat ur in our bed, confused. ''Hello!'' I sat up in bed and began rubbing her back.

''It's me. It's Derek.'' I said as I tried to calm her down.

''Finn get away from me!'' She screamed and slammed her hands on my chest pushing me away.

''Honey, I'm not Finn. I'm Derek. I'm your husband. Look at me and try and remember. Just look at me.'' I sat back up and pleaded to her to give me a chance.

''Derek, is that you? What are you doing here, you should be with Addison! She's your wife!

''Meredith, Addison and I haven't been together for over 25 years. We are married, we have kids, okay. Look, take a look at this video, just watch it and you'll see.''

''Okay.'' She submitted and I pulled out the laptop from the bedside table. She sat in the bed with the computer on her lap as she paid full attention to the information on the screen.

Hey Meredith, it's Derek, your husband. You probably recognise me, but don't remember me. You probably think I'm familiar, but you don't know why you think that. I show this video to you everyday to remind you of who I am, and of who you are. Meredith, you have Alzheimers. Everyday, your memory is different. Some days, you remember me as the guy you met in the bar, and other days you don't remember me at all. Some days, you remember you are a surgeon, other days you think you are travelling around the world with Sadie. Some days, you remember me, but think I am still with my ex-wife Addison, other days you remember we are married and have three beautiful children. At this point of the video, you are probably feeling emotional or confused, let me clear some things up. You have had Alzheimers for 3 years but have only started to have severe short-term memory loss for about a year. Short-term memory loss is when you remember things that happened a long time ago, but not things that happened yesterday or last week. If you can remember, you put your mother in a nursing home when she got Alzheimers. I want you to know that I will look after you at our own house for as long as I physically can, given my age and capabilities. I love you Mer, I always will and always have. Speaking of love, let me tell you our love story.

It was the night before your first day of work as an intern at the hospital, it was also the night before my first day of work at the hospital, but I was an attending. You sat down at Joe's bar and ordered straight tequila while I sat there in awe of the girl a few seats down for me. I started talking to you and you ignored me, then I said some cheesy line and you introduced yourself as 'just a girl in a bar' and I replied saying 'I'm just a guy in a bar'. The next day we found out I was your boss and with hesitation, we continued our forbidden love. And then Addison, my ex-wife, came. She interfered with our relationship, you were pissed at me because I kept things from you, and we broke up for a bit. You met Finn and began seeing him. Eventually we had sex and made up and finally got back together after I divorced Addison. Then for some other stupid reason we broke up again and I started dating some girl called Rose. I started a clinical trial for brain tumours that you were a part of and during the trial, every single patient died, except for the last one. The last patient lived and to celebrate we were going to have champagne. I couldn't find you so I went to my trailer with the champagne only to find you, standing in the middle of my land in a house of candles. You gave this beautiful speech about being extraordinary together rather than being ordinary apart and we kissed and got back together. We got married on a post-it note some time later and that is where we made our vows. They were;

1. To love each other, even when we hate each other,.

2. No running.

3. Take care when old, senile and smelly. (I also promised to remind you who I was everyday when you get Alzheimers, but I couldn't fit it on the post it)
