Demyan

The fire crackled in the office that was now mine. My eyes were set on the pictures spread around the mantle. Generations of my blood hung there. The vicious men who had ruled the Bravta stared right into my eyes as if taunting me.

I had let our church fall. No one had tied to attack the Bravta and still yet I had been attacked. Though I wanted to laugh at the irony that it was my own half-brother who was behind it. He was ruthless, too vicious. He had killed his wife, the same woman he had once introduced me to once we had crossed paths at a party. He had presented as if she was the only thing from him, his only treasure but looks like she never was.

I was damn angry was short to say because I was damn furious, enraged, and irate. Without another word, I threw the glass tumbler in the fire. It shattered on the impact and the fire burned a bit bright from the alcohol that was left.

"It's not going to solve anything, Demyan," Zach spoke making my eyes turn to him. Like always he sat in the corner of my office wherever it was. He worked silently on his laptop.

"Got anything that would?" I asked standing from where I was sitting. I was still in my tuxedo even though the night had dawned. There was no way I was changing until I figured out what his surprise was. He wasn't a bluffer I know and I knew he had something planned for me. This time I needed to know it before him.

"Nothing, I can't even find where he is at the moment." He seethed out in anger. "It feels like he is a fucking ghost," his fingers tapped on the laptop.

"He can't be that fucking clean, Zach." He couldn't over-smart me. We might share a part of the same blood but we couldn't be the same and he could never be more than what he was. He had betrayed everyone here and joined Ivan. He was nothing like the blood that ran in him. Just a fucking disgrace he was.

"He was never clean, to begin with." He replied without looking at me but I could see the anger in those eyes. I knew it well that maybe I had been the one to shun him down but he had betrayed Zach and his family the most. Zach's family had been the one to take him in after my family had shunned him down but he had betrayed his family leaving them and joining hands with Ivan. They had felt betrayed but I knew that he was always going to betray the family.

He was always playing in the wrong leagues. I wanted to end this for once and all with a bullet between the eyes that were the same as mine.

A knock on the door had me reaching for my gun over the desk. I looked to Zach knowing very well it was late night and everyone had gone to sleep. His hand went for his gun. We were fucking paranoid.

"Come in," I ordered and when I saw the blonde hair, I let out a breath of relief.

"Sofia, why are you still awake?" Zach asked from where he was sitting. She stepped inside and I saw the pale blue nighty she was wearing. Beautiful, exquisite she was. Her eyes landed on me and she gave me a small smile. Today should have been a night where I had taken her to the bed and devoured her body but here, we were busy looking for our enemy.

"Just couldn't sleep," her voice so gentle and calm. She was perfection with her brown eyes and ivory skin. She was nothing less of a princess and she would have been mine by now if it wasn't for the interference of my half-brother.

"Thought I could come downstairs and talk with Demyan," her soothing voice vanished away from the worries or a bit. Her smile made me want to be a better man.

"Sure," Zach spoke getting up. "I should be checking on Natalia and Andrew. Goodnight." He bid his farewell as he walked out of the door with his laptop in his hand. Sophia stood there waiting for the click of the door.
