Ji Heng was suffering from sleep disorder partly due to his worry and guilt about Zhao'er, the girl who might have been killed with her parents. As they can't find her body, he hoped that she escaped.
Ji Heng was very fond of the little girl and might have been a little in love with her as well when he was also just a little boy. He still remembered the girl insisting to buy his and her's masks during the festival. She did not know then the meaning of the masks. They were lovers.
Anyway, despite his love for Zhao'er, he is uncomfortably drawn to Tian Qi because, for some reason, Tian Qi reminds him of Zhao'er.
As Tian Qi was a 'boy' he was doubly cruel to him sometimes but he gets angry if anyone else victimises Tian Qi.
Tian Qi was being set up as the fall guy by the murderer. Thank goodness Ji Heng knew about this.
