themes: heartbreak, bitterness, moving on

twenty two months is finally enough

to stitch the wounds you left behind

were your dagger words mere calamity

or did you mean every twisting blade

as you hit my body and drove away

the plastered grin told the whole story

days and nights you slept next to her

pacific and atlantic fell from my eyes

i played your waiting game for years

the picture of sheer deception hidden

behind those warm chocolate eyes

my barred cage dripped in honey wine

below this sinking ground you've built

i've made a home for my wretched soul

resting my head upon your metal frame

sleep grew worlds away from my reach

how sick i have become these days

longing for a singeing touch i cannot feel

today as i finally find my footing again

you're the one who will be laid to rest

i am no longer a bird of broken flight

for you to make a foolish show out of

too many manically scrawled words

resemble you on this fresh parchment

i long to retch out every last piece of you

the parts you left that stained my gut

i swim my way to the surface again

finding the clear blue sky i've missed

you've stolen what remained of me

and tonight i win it all back forever

i sign my name above the jagged line

and seal these last words with a kiss
