Soulmate. Something everyone is given but it takes a while for the signs to show. One huge sign is that whatever song you're listening to, your soulmate can hear it too. Sometimes you can even hear their thoughts.

Everyone I knew had found their soulmate. Natasha and Bruce, Pepper and Tony, Laura and Clint, Steve and Sharon, hell, even Peter had found his! Here I was without mine. Everyone told me that I'd find them or that I'd hear a song or hear their thoughts, but so far nothing has happened.

"Maybe I don't have one." I said picking at my food. "Nonsense Lady Y/n! You of all midguardians definitely have a soulmate." "Then how come I haven't heard from them, Thor?" I exclaimed getting upset. I just wanted to be happy and find my soulmate. I went up to my room and started a song that got me through this time.

I sat in my cell, waiting for another mission. I haven't had one in a while. My eyes began to close before I heard an all too familiar song in my head.

"How can you miss someone you never met?
Well I need you now, but I don't know you yet.
And can you find me soon, because I'm in my head?
Yeah I need you now but I don't know you yet."

I haven't heard the song in weeks. I assumed something had happened to them or they were too busy or distracted. I lightly sang along with the lyrics. I've heard this song so many times I basically have it memorized.

When the song stopped I heard their thoughts in my head. 'Will I ever find you?' they asked. 'one day, Doll.' I sighed attempted to get some sleep.

My eyes were wide and my hand covered my face. 'i heard him' the emotions I was feeling right now we're too strong. I immediately got up from my bed and ran to Nat's room. I knocked repeatedly until she answered. "This better be good." She said with a groggy voice. "I heard them him!" I exclaimed. Her face immediately picked up and she pulled me into her room.

"You did?" She asked I nodded and couldn't help but smile and blush. "I know he's out there now! I was so worried he didn't even exist!" I felt as if I was on cloud nine. "What did he say?" She asked. "I asked myself if I'd ever find him and he said I would one day." I said. "Vague, but better than nothing! I'm so happy for you!" She hugged me one last time and I left to try to get some sleep.

The events of the next day were not as cheerful as the ones last night. I woke up to my phone going bezirk. I answers the call to hear Maria. "Nick's down, he got shot in Steve's apartment last night. We still don't know who the shooter is. Get taken to the hospital ASAP, that's an order." Before I could respond she hung up.

When I got to the hospital everyone was standing at the window looking in. "What did he look like." I asked with my voice breaking. "He was strong, and fast, and he had a metal arm." Steve said. I saw Nat's eyes go wide before she walked away.

Steve and I followed her. "Something you need to tell us?" I asked. "Even if I did you wouldn't believe me." "What if we do? If you know something tell us?" "People refer to him as the winter soldier. He's credited with over two dozen assassinations in the last fifty years. He's a ghost story. But I've seen him. I was on a mission. He shot out my tires and then aimed at us. The man I was in the mission with jumped out in front of me, but the bullet went through both of us." She said lifting up her shirt to show the scar on her stomach. I gasped and looked at Steve.

"Let's go catch this son of a bitch." Steve said. "Even if we wanted to, we'd never find him. He's gonna have to come to us." Nat said. "He already did." Steve said walking out of the hospital.

After completing my mission I was sent back to my cell. This was my life. Mission, cell, sometimes mid wipe, mission. I sighed and thought about the man from the roof. I barely got a look at him, but I feel like I knew him.

Out of nowhere I heard the song again. I smiled lightly and sang along in my head, which lead to hearing her voice again. She had the prettiest voice. When I began singing out loud Pierce and some other guy came in. They looked at me concerned. They then looked at each other and grabbed both my arms. I knew what was coming so I tried to fight back. "Let me go!" I tried kicking and struggling but to no avail.

I was then sat in the machine and hooked up. "Please. Let me keep her." I said with my voice breaking. "You have two very big missions coming up, and you don't need any distractions." Pierce said. "Please. Don't have a soulmate, too?" "Soulmates aren't real." With that I felt the excruciating pain, but all I could think about was her.

Nat and Steve were alerted that the winter solider was on the move. They immediately left. I tried coming with them but they wouldn't let me. I sighed and hoped they'd come back alright.

When they did return they came back with some guy. "Y/n, this is Sam. He's gonna be helping us for the rest of this. I nodded and smiled, offering him my hand. He took it and formally introduced himself.

I looked over at Steve and he looked shaken. I placed a hand on his shoulder which he flinched at. "What's up?" I asked. "It was Bucky." He said barely above a whisper. My eyes went wide. Bucky was Steve's best friend from back in the day. They did everything together. "I thought he died from the train." I said. "So did I, but when his mask fell off it was him. Same eyes, same face, same voice. Hydras' made him their own personal killing machine." He said.

I sighed and looked at the ground. "You're gonna get to save him, aren't you?" I asked. "Wouldn't you?" "Yes, but Steve, he's different now. He obviously doesn't recognize you. He's not the same Bucky you knew in the 40's." I tried to reason with him. "I know he's in there somewhere." He said walking off.

Steve and Sam had left to put an end to Bucky. It had been hours, they had finally reached the helicarriers. Nat and Sam had secured their pieces, the only left was Steve. With only a minute left I called out for Steve. "Steve! It's now or never."

I was on my mission, destroy Captain America. I was doing just that, until I heard a voice. An all too familiar voice. "Steve! It's now or never!" My eyes went wide and my fist retracted. The man under me, who I assumed was Steve looked at me. "I can take you to her. I know she's your soulmate." Before I had time to answer the aircraft we were on exploded and sent us both into the river. When I hit the water I fully fell out of the spell. I dragged this Steve person to the river bank and shook him awake. When he finally opened his eyes I looked at him dead in them. "Take me to her."

The elevator dinged and I looked over. There was Nat, Sam, Steve, and the man of honor himself. "He looked at me and stood still. I did the same. "Is that her?" He asked. His voice sounded so familiar, but then everything came together. The pieces connected. "Bucky?" I asked slowly moving forward. "I think so." He said sadly. I didn't know what else to do besides hug him. I felt tears escaped my eyes. Before he had a chance to hug back he was being pulled away from me.

He looked hurt. I tried to pull him back but I felt someone restrain me. "No you don't understand!" I cried. 'its okay, doll.' I heard him say as he weakly smiling at me. I watched them drag him to the elevator.

'how can you miss someone you never met?'
