Lizzie reversed quickly as Bella's truck suddenly backed up in the Swan driveway. She was giving Bella a ride to school today instead of the other way around. She needed a controlled drive after Edward's stunt, honestly, they were kind of perfect for each other. Bella went too slow and Edward went too fast.
The brakes on the truck screeched and Bella stuck her head out at neckbreaking speed, her eyes wide in shock.
"Whoa whoa, easy there, Bells! This is a classic, you know, one of a kind."
"Oh, God! I'm sorry, Lizzie. I thought I had the brake on."
"No harm, no foul," she joked and shrugged as Bella exited her truck and rounded the passenger side of Lizzie's Impala.
"Charlie replaced the tires this morning and I was just trying them out before school," Bella explained. "And hey, how many cars do you have exactly? Where's the Convertible?"
"At home, I felt like a change. And this... " Lizzie affectionately patted the dashboard, "is a present from our cousins for my sweet sixteen birthday last year." Technically it was about eight years ago give or take but Bella didn't need to know that.
"It's nice, really suits you... Aren't you cold?" she looked down at Lizzie's choice of outfit for the day, just an overly big sweater and a pair of shorts.
"Eh, not really. I mean, this is basically Forks' summertime so I'm used to it," she said, starting up the engine and speeding off down the street. "Ugh, school is going to be so boring today! I have mostly advanced classes but they're making me do some grade training test, I think it's called. More like a waste of time."
"Oh, right. I forgot we're not in the same classes, that sucks."
"Tell me about it. Maybe they won't notice if I ditch."
"You're basically a genius in everything, trust me they'll notice." Lizzie quirked a brow in question before Bella quickly explained. "Edward mentioned you're top of all your classes."
"Right, of course, he did."
"But hey, I'd be happy if I were you 'cause now it's basically a ditch day for you anyway. All you have to do is fill in some tests and leave, easy. You'll be done before lunch unlike me who has a pre-test course for Biology before the actual test. Sneak me in something to eat, will you?"
Lizzie laughed at the pout on Bella's face. "Love to, but no can do Bells. Once lunchtime rolls around Jacob's coming to pick me up for some real food, not that cafeteria cardboard we eat every day."
"Jacob? You two have been hanging out a lot lately, huh?"
"Have we?"
"Yeah, you have. Something you want to tell me? Like is there something going on between the two of you?"
"Between us? Jacob and I? We're friends, just friends. I mean, it is nice to have someone other than my siblings, Jessica and Angela, to hang out with. Jacob's good company, we have fun together... okay, why are you looking at me like that?"
