《CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE》

《WARNINGS: BLOOD/GORE》

"SHOTA, DON'T MAKE me fight you!” Neoma yelled, a black barrier of shadows shooting in front of her, blocking the rush of flames.

She was beginning to sweat, the heat from the flames warming her body and making her feel hot. She shed her coat, watching it burn up in the fire as she tossed it to the ground. The heat was nipping at her skin, making her frown as her skin became hot to the touch. As the flames fell, she could see her brother across from her.

Shota was unfazed. One of his hands remained in his pockets, the other extended out towards her. His palm was red hot, the tips of his fingers glowing yellow from the heat of the flames. He was frowning deeply, his eyebrows laced in anger.

“Fine,” He said. “Then just stand there and let me kill you.”

Neoma rushed to the side, rolling onto her shoulder to avoid the next wave of flames. She slid on the burned fabric of her discarded jacket, her eyebrows lacing with distress.

“Shota, stop! You’re not the one I want to hurt, dammit!” She yelled, her voice echoing in the air.

“Do you think I care?” Shota said, sending another wave of heat at her. “I said I was going to protect Y/n if it was the last thing I ever did. If it means killing you, then I’ll do it.”

“I’m your sister!” She screamed, her hands coming to her chest. “I practically raised you, Sho! I loved you when no one else would! I believed in you when no one else would! I am your older sister, Shota!”

“Is that what you think?” He said, lowering his hand. “That you’re still my sister?”

Her dark green eyes widened. “W-What are you talking about?”

“You’re not my older sister,” He laughed, his shoulders shaking as he did. “No, my older sister died twenty-one years ago because she got too cocky. I accepted her death. You, on the other hand. You’re nothing but a shell. The Nemo that practically raised me--”

He took his other hand from his pocket. He pressed his hands together before turning them, facing them in opposite directions. The flames rose behind him, the mixture of the warm tones forming into a slender shape. The outline of a dragon formed behind him, rising to tower behind him.

“--is dead.”

She quickly surrounded herself in a barrier as the flames rushed at her. The barrier broke, making her gasp in surprise. She was knocked back, her face twisting in pain as the heat from the fire burned her arm. She jumped into the air, watching the flames disperse before reforming under her.
