Byuksan Middle School: Class 3-4 [Gray's pov]
---------------------------------------------------------

I sat next to this girl in my class, and we both flipped through our textbooks, only myself repeating this over and over.

[I read the textbooks front to back, over and over again,]

[Repeated math problems from books I'd already finished,]

The teacher gave us directions for what parts would be on a test.

[And concentrated on the tasks given to me,]

[With laser sharp focus.]

[The reason was simple.]

[I didn't know what I was supposed to do.]

The girl sitting next to Gray, her name was Y/n L/n. She didn't know her classmate personally, rather she was more close to her classmate Stephen Ahn.

Y/n sat in her seat annoyed with the two idiots behind them who were talking about them. She of course gave them awfully funny nicknames she'd never say to their faces though.

"Gray Yeon, he's first place again I heard. That girl next to him, Y/n, she's always in third but I don't think she minds all that much." The first guy (Frog Face) says.

His friend (Tamushroom) replies, "He's going for it. He's on path to becoming an elite like Y/n. She was born into a place of high status. Not to mention she's super pretty and popular."

Leaning on his friend's desk Tamushroom asks, "So why does homeroom dislike Gray Yeon so much? It's like he low-key just hates Gray."

Frog Face answers, "Right. And it's not even subtle. I have no idea why though."

Gray's Thoughts [Narrator pov]
---------------------------------------------------------

[I didn't really have a dream I wanted to achieve.]

[So I just did as I was told, like a fool.]

[But,]

[The ongoing sense of emptiness,]

[To fill that empty space in my heart,]

[What I focused on was the acquisition of more knowledge.]

Gray sat in a library flipping through each book with precision. Unbeknownst to him Y/n also sat in that library across the room, and quietly read manga in peace not taking notes like Gray.

[Religion, Philosophy, Science, Literature, Pragmatic Knowledge, History. Whatever subject, genre. I didn't discriminate.]

Gray stands on a rooftop looking t the view below contemplating why his heart was not yet filled.

[I thought that by doing that, eventually,]

[My baseless emptiness,]

[Would be filled.]

[The results always stayed true to the work I put in.]

[But my empty heart,]

[Was not filled.]
