THE HUNT

He waited for her, minute after minute, hoping she would come back any second. He couldn't say he was surprised to see her gone when he returned from the shower, but he was still worried. She left without any notice or trace, knowing that she is an easy target, hunted by many blood starved people who would show no mercy to someone like her.

A slight crack of the door made him jump from his seat, rushing to the door. She was caught sneaking back in, maybe what Yuki said was true, she was not as slick as she thought.

"I found the phone behind the couch pillow" was all he said, but he was barely holding back

He wanted to ask her a million question, even if she was only gone for an hour or so, but he knew he would be too greedy to pass over their boundaries, to dare to act as if he was more, when in reality he was nothing to begin with.

"I see" she was expecting to get asked something, anything, knowing how Gojo usually was, but was surprised to get a simply nod in response

"Still want that coffee?" he offered her, still checking her silently, perhaps for any sorts of wounds or bruises, signs of her being harmed in any way

"I don't like coffee" she admitted

It wasn't long until silence made its way between the two. He was sipping on his sugary coffee while reading a book she didn't bother to look at and she was simply playing with her fingers from across the table, like a child. None of them was ready to speak about anything that truly concerned their situation, because they were both cowards when it came to taking risks of such nature.

"Did you kill her?" he asked out of the blue

Gojo knew that Y/N was an unpredictable force, a person who could also be described as a thundering storm. He was aware of the grudge she hold against her sisters and wouldn't be surprised if she took the matters into her own hands, but he couldn't help but wonder how much humanity was left in that body of hers.

"Do you really think of me like that?"

Typical. All questions were answered with another question, but perhaps this time she had all the right to do so, it was rather...disappointing for the man to ask her something of such sort.

"Don't be dramatic over it, I was merely asking. You can't blame me, can you?"

And in that moment she certainly wished she would have the power and will to kill the man, he was surely getting on her nerves.

"You should know your place, Gojo" she sighed, reaching for his mug to get a sip out of the bitter sweet beverage

"Didn't you just say you don't like coffee?" he raised one of his brows

"I was merely convincing myself over that matter"

Gojo found himself smiling at her childish actions, it has been too long since he saw her this relaxed and skittish, he felt at ease knowing she was somewhere he could see. But was this mere presence of her enough? Of course not, like any other human being he was getting greedy, he wanted more but he was not ready for it. None of them were, cause in all honesty, their fate was doomed the moment they were born, sorcery was not an easy job, but it was part of their life. And as any other crucial thing, it had its ups and downs, having its perks and its dangerous parts, making them switch between those each time they were obligated to do so.

"Y/N" he called her name

He wanted to tell her the one thing he was so afraid his entire life, but he couldn't. He got lost in the innocence of those (e/c) eyes, mesmerised by their natural glow and by her calm gaze. Instead of speaking up, he cowardly kissed her, pushing deeper the thoughts he kept fighting for, afraid it was too soon or it would have been to reckless of him to say it now.

She didn't know if she should, but she kissed him back, with a shyness that didn't live up to her actions from a night before. Truthfully, she was getting dozen of butterflies each time he touched her or looked at her with that gaze of his, but she didn't like to admit it, yet her body was alluring her out.

"We shouldn't be doing this" she said under her breath, her cold hands brushing his cheek

He was aware of how inappropriate they were behaving, on how poorly they were treating the situation they were in, but he decided to be selfish for her, for this one time. They were not meant for each other, they were not a perfect match and surely not brought together by any fate or destiny, yet they couldn't help but be drawn to one another, acting all selfish while being the most selfless people.

"Tell me to stop and I will" he said as his eyes couldn't leave the sight of her lips

"Don't stop, please" she gently said, letting herself get overwhelmed by his touch once again

Only if they would have been more careful of their surroundings, perhaps that way they would have seen it coming. Their actions were doomed in the moment they both let their guard down, paying more attention to their desire and carnal needs than to what they should have.

A loud crack followed a an astonishing bang creaked through the sound of their intimacy. Someone has broken into his apartment, set to take the life of the young woman who was not as agile as she thought.

"Look out!" he shouted pushing her behind him as he blocked the stranger's attacks

Gaining her senses back by the sudden intrusion, she acts in an instant, slashing the man with a single move before Gojo could do anything more. The blood was staining the wooden floor, but it was simply set as a warning for the reality they tried to avoid, she couldn't afford at all these moments she tried so hard to cling onto, she was nothing more than the prize of a hunt, too big for her own good. Anything she hoped, even for just a second, that would change or allow her to follow her humanity was nothing more than a sugar coated lie.

"We need to get going, this is definitely not a safe place anymore" his voice was rough and the grip on her arm was even rougher

It was perhaps the first time Gojo felt scared, and surprisingly, it was not for his sake, but for someone else's, and that was a much more frightening thought.
