(note: Another One Bites the Dust is mentioned in this chapter, I know it was released in 1980 but you know what, this is a book about witches and wizards, so I don't think a timeline inaccuracy is the worst of it)

(note #2: i uh, i apologize in advance for this chapter)

November 3rd, 1978 - Sirius and Nephera's Home

It was a rather important day for Sirius, and his excitement was so large, that not even the grueling morning of Auror Patrols could take it away from him. Not only was it his nineteenth birthday, but it was also the day of the Queen concert, one that he and the rest of the marauders couldn't stop talking about for the past few days.

Thankfully for him, his witch, and James, Nephera had managed to convince Moody to let the three of them off patrols for that evening, which is how he found himself lying in bed, leaning against the headboard waiting for Nephera to finish drying herself off after their shower.

"Are you sure you can walk all the way back here?" he asked teasingly, referring to the activities that had transpired in that same room a mere half hour ago

The brunette rolled her eyes, "You give yourself too much credit," she snarked, "Do roll a blunt while you're just sitting there, would you?" she went to pick up a shirt to throw over herself but was stopped by the boy

"Don't, I like having you naked," he protested, "come on, it's my birthday, think of it as a gift,"

She scowled, but followed his wishes nonetheless, discarding the towel and moving to lay between his legs, with her back to his chest, "I already got you a present, the concert we're going to tonight," she pointed out, taking the rolling paper from his hands and rolling it herself

For a moment, Sirius was distracted by her actions, seeing her tongue poking out of her mouth and thin, long fingers working on the joint, but he brought himself out of his trance quickly, "No, that was an anniversary present," he countered, dipping his head down to press a kiss to her collarbone, right on top of the snake tattoo

"It's not my fault your birthday's three days after our anniversary,"

He lifted her chin with his finger, allowing her to see the deadpan expression on his face, "Says the girl who was born one day after Valentine's day," he quirked an eyebrow

A soft laugh escapes her, "MErlin, we really should've planned this better," she shakes her head, holding the now rolled joint to him, "Birthday boy gets the first taste,"

Still, it seemed like the weed was the last thing on Sirius's mind at that moment as he leaned down and kissed her passionately, "I'd rather get a taste of something else," he murmured against her lips

"Down, boy," she teased, "You've got to give me some time to recover,"

The proud glint in his eye was hard to miss as he took the join from her fingers and lit it, inhaling deeply and holding the smoke in for a few seconds before letting it out slowly. With that, they settled in comfortable silence, Sirius was smoking while playing with her hair, busing himself with making small braids in it, while Nephera was leaning against his chest, reading through Hecate's grimoire that he had gifted her a few days ago.

Every time he took a hit, he'd bring the joint down to her lips as well, reading over her shoulder while he did so. He had to admit, Dark Magic was interesting. The intricacy of the rituals and spells, the malice behind them, it was all too enticing.

Not to mention how hilarious he found the way Nephera was flicking through it, as though it was just any old book, "What's that one?" he asked

Nephera had to think harder than usual for the translation, the weed in her system making her slightly groggy, "Mind-wielding potion," she finally found the translation from ancient Greek, "Slip it into someone's drink, and you can plant any thought you want to in their head, and they'd believe it,"
