August 20th, 1979 - James and Lily's Apartment

In the midst of all the chaos, James Potter and Lily Evans were planning their wedding, the date of which was fast approaching at the end of September. However, one might understand how said preparations had been put to hold due to recent events. Three days ago, when Sirius and Leon were patrolling Diagon Alley, they had gotten attacked. As if that wasn't bad enough on its own, the Death Eaters had gotten away for the most part, but not before one of them let it slip that it was a targeted attack, "But was it Sirius that had been targeted or Leon?" asked Lily, stirring her tea

James shrugged, "I don't know, Nephie has no clue either. Padfoot being targeted would make sense, due to the vow, but I've been on patrols multiple times and nothing has happened,"

"Yes, but what reason does Riddle have to attack Leon? He's not even British for fuck's sake, he's only here because the French Ministry sent him," countered the girl, "Merlin, when is this going to end?"

"I wish I could answer that," James could see just how stressed Lily was, he saw it every day

Her job as a healer only made her stress worse. Every day, people were brought into St. Mungo's, hurt and bleeding. Most times, there was nothing to be done to save them except give them something to ease their passing. Men, women, children, the redhead had seen them all die before her eyes, but that wasn't the worst part. No, the worst part was when she had to tell their families that their loved ones were gone.

Most lashed out, blamed her for their deaths, told her she was too young, too inexperienced, that if it were someone older tending to their daughter or son, they would've survived. Others simply sat down quietly, unable to process the fact that the very person they had hugged that morning was no longer with them.

The Potter boy scoured his brain for a lighter topic, something to distract the witch, if only momentarily, "So, the wedding will be at the Burrow, then?" he asked

Lily's face brightened up, "I think it's the safest option right now. Alice and Frank's wedding went without a hitch, with a little bit of luck, so will ours,"

"The wedding will go perfectly," assured James, "But we're keeping it small, there's no knowing who's working with who these days,"

That was an excuse more than anything else, of course. James's parents were dead, as were Lily's, and a lot of their friends had perished from the war, dead before their time. Truly, it wasn't a choice to have a small wedding, it was simply the way life had unraveled.

All of a sudden, James's owl, Quaffle, flew in through the open window, perching itself on the table. The redhead drew in a sharp breath, for she knew exactly whose response the owl carried.

Petunia's.

The two sisters had never been close, at least not after the younger found out she was a witch. That bond had been broken when Lily boarded the Hogwarts Express for the first time, and it was completely shattered when Petunia didn't allow Lily to attend their parent's funeral, blaming the fact that she was a witch for their deaths.

Still, the younger sister had invited the older one to her wedding. She couldn't help it, really, for Lily had envisioned that day ever since she was a young girl, and her sister had always been included in those visions, "Remember, flower, whatever she says, it's not on you. You tried," James spoke softly, reminding his fiancee that whatever response the letter carried wasn't on her
