"So I was thinking after we've had lunch I could take you to meet my friends?" Dianna spoke as they walked in the door to the restaurant where they were meeting Sarah for her birthday lunch
He nodded "I would like that"
The couple walked towards the table, Sarah standing up as she saw them.
"Happy birthday mom" she smiled pulling her in for a hug, pulling away she handed her a gift bag "and this is for you, from me" she clarified
"Thank you darling" Sarah smiled
"Happy birthday Sarah, and this is from me" he pulled a bunch of flowers from behind his back handing them to her.
It wasn't much, he wanted to give her more but Dianna stopped him. Telling him she didn't need or want much.
"These are beautiful, thank you so much ransom" Sarah smiled
"Sorry? Sorry what?" Dianna questioned chuckling
"I was saying thank you, now I'll run and put these in my car and be right back"
"You brought the car?" Dianna asked, clearly confused considering she could've just walked
She nodded "well...I have a date later"
"A date? I didn't know you were dating"
"We'll talk when I get back" Sarah spoke cutting the conversation short before leaving the restaurant
Dianna chuckled shaking her head as they both took a seat "what is it?" Ransom questioned
"She likes you"
"She does? How do you know?" Ransom was desperate for Sarah to like him, it was almost like he wanted her permission
"She's never said thank you to any of my boyfriends before, not once. Yet with you she couldn't be more grateful " she laughed
Ransom chuckled as Sarah returned taking a seat across from Dianna.
"So you're dating?" She questioned chuckling
Yes, I know I should've spoke to you about it but-"
"Mom, I'm fine with it. Dad left years ago and you deserve to be happy" Dianna smiled reassuringly
"Really?"
"Really, now let's order some food"
The rest of the lunch went smoothly, ransom and Sarah getting along like a house on fire. Sarah insisted on telling what Dianna would consider some of her most embarrassing stories but she didn't mind for once, it was bringing ransom and Sarah closer and that's what she wanted. She wanted the two most important people in her life to get along, she needed them to get along and here they were. Ransom insisted on paying, something Sarah couldn't stop talking about as they walked her to the car.
"So you'll come see me before you go?" Sarah asked as she opened her car door
"Of course we will" Dianna smiled giving her mom a hug "enjoy your date, I want to know everything"
She chuckled kissing her daughters cheek before pulling away "I will, I will"
Ransom put his hand out for Sarah to shake, he wasn't sure what to do in this situation.
