Depression

Even when you're basking in the light you can feel it lurking.

Fleeting moments of happiness because it has a higher affinity for keeping you hurting.

You try to be positive but it just isnt working.
It dances towards you like the flame you light in the dark.

You try to dodge, knowing that once it gets its grasp on you itll be harder to part.

It grabs you by the neck slowly cutting off the air to your lungs, you take your last breath of happiness knowing its finally won.

No more resisting, Your body goes numb, the white flag waving  showing that you've  succumb.

It picks you up, the back of your shirt in between its index finger and thumb. Gives you a menacing grin as it stares into your soul. Then it tosses you into the darkness and it swallows you whole.

Now you're locked in its cage.

With your friends you no longer engage.

Only emotions available seem to be sadness, pain, and rage.

From your family you're estranged. They all say you've changed.

Thats because it's been keeping you imprisoned.

Searching for relief at the end of a bottle prescription.

Stuck in bed and trapped in you head.

At times it whispers to you " You'd be better off dead".

I know it all too well.

Yet here I am, still I prevail, and so can you.
