TW: fighting, guns, slight panic attack

Pov y/n

A loud noise makes me shoot up from my sleep. I look around but my room looks normal.
Being silent and listening, I can hear something from somewhere in the tower. I get up, put on some shoes and a jacket and slowly leave my room, following the noises.
I can hear shooting and glass breaking and automatically start running.

“Mom?” I yell and keep following the noises until I reach the room where the party was a little while ago.
I stop at the door immediately and take in the scene.
There are robots flying around, attacking the Avengers and shooting lasers.
My eyes search for my mom and I see her shooting at a robot from behind the bar.

A laser hits the wall behind be and I let out a scream, drawing my moms attention.
“Y/n!”
I watch as a robot turns to her and hold my breath as a laser shots at her but hits the bar instead.
I look around fast and run behind a table that fell over during the fight for cover.

“Hey kid! Take this!” Tony shoves a gun over the ground into my direction before he runs and jumps onto a robot that starts to attack Bruce.
My hands shiver a little as I take the gun into my hands. I never really used one. Of course I saw my mom train with them but she never let me shoot with them, just hold them.
Even though she trained me in comeback and fighting, she never let me use a gun because it reminds her of the Red Room and she doesn’t want me to grow up, knowing how to handle such a deadly weapon.

I look at the gun in my hands and around the room, seeing a robot heading towards Steve who has his back turned to it.
I take a deep breath and get up on my knees, holding the gun in front of me, trying to aim for the robot. But my hands shake and I can’t keep them still. A thousand thoughts run through my head and my breathing speeds up a little.
“Y/n! Stay down!” Without thinking, I follow the orders of my mom and take cover behind that table again.

I hear gunshots firing and a few seconds later she crouches in front of me. Before I can do anything, she takes the gun out of my hands and fires it from behind the table.
“We need to get you out of here!”
I’m not able to speak so I just nod and watch her from my position.
“When I tell you ‘go’, we will get up and run back to the door you came from. Alright?”
“Yes.” My voice is shaky and quiet but she still heard me.

After a few more seconds she glances at me and says: “Go!”
I get up as fast as I can, running back to the door I came from. She follows me, firing a few shots while running.
I hear something burst near me and a sharp pain shots through my cheek but I keep running until the noises get quieter and I’m down the hall.
My mom carefully drops her gun and takes me into her arms, hugging me tightly.
Slowly I hug her back, still shaking a little.

She carefully pushes me away a bit to look at me. Her hands cup my face and she wipes away tears that I didn’t know were there. Worry mirrors in her eyes. “What happened to your cheek?”
I take a shaky breath and answer: “I don’t know, something cut me or so when we ran out.”
She nods and takes my hand, leading me further away from the fight and to my bedroom.
As we arrive, she pulls me into the bathroom, sitting me on the counter and getting something to clean the cut.

“Look at me, malyschka.” Her voice is soft and her eyes are searching for mine. I look at her and she gently starts to clean the cut. I hiss a little at the pain.
“Why where you there?”
She isn’t angry or upset, she just wants to know.
“I heard loud noises and wanted to see what was happening and then I was worried about you. And when I stood there, there were all those robots and you were fighting and then I looked for cover and Tony slid the gun over and I wanted to shoot, I really did but I couldn’t. Something in my head kept me from it. I’m so sorry, mama.”

Tears run down my face and my breath gets a little shallow from my crying.
“Shhh, everything is fine now, malyschka. You’re safe and nothing is going to happen to you or me. Deep breathes.” She calms me down, slowly rubbing my arms and looking me in the eyes.
I do as told and take a few deep breathes and feel myself calming down.

“I’m sorry, I couldn’t shoot.” I whisper and look at my hands in my lap.
She softly lifts up my chin so I look into the same green eyes as I own.
“There is absolutely nothing to be sorry for, moya lyubov.” She puts a band-aid on the cut and places a soft kiss next to it.
“You don’t know how to work a gun and that’s a good thing. You don’t need this skill right now because you have me to protect you and I will teach you how to handle a gun when it’s the right time. Tony didn’t have any right to give you that gun and expect from you to shoot when you’ve never done it. I will have a word with him afterwards. Just know that you did nothing wrong, okay?”

I bite my lip and nod slowly, feeling a bit less guilty for not shooting.
“Now let’s get you to bed.” My mom pads my knee and steps back for me to get off the counter.
I take off my jacket and shoes and lay down.
She sits next to me on the bed and I lay my head in her lab. Her hand brushes over my hair and I calm down completely, knowing we’re both safe now.
