E.J's POV:

After runnning into Chris in the hallway again, I finally make it to my last period class on time, and get seated on one of the stools next to my cousin, Ashlyn who is also in the same art class.

"Hey Ash, how's your first day back been?" I notice that she's wearing her mood ring today.

"Good, I'm slowly getting used to my new schedule, and organizing projects for the bake club and crochet club and I'm excited to try out for a spot on the dance team this afternoon. Oh and my new neighbor, Gina is in one of my classes," I listen to my cousin talk while other sophomores and juniors file into the classroom and take their seats.

Unfortunately, that curly haired boy that I saw today isn't in this class. He must be in another elective.

"I'm so proud of you cuz, you've accomplished so much and you're only a sophomore. You are definitely going to be Junior class president next fall. And I can't wait to watch you dance during halftime of my lacrosse games when you make the dance team," I side hug her as I look over at the door again but don't see any curly haired boys walk in the art room door.

"Thanks, so how's you're day been?" I back away from the hug and sit back in my seat to face Ashlyn again.

"It's been okay. You know the usual, the guys are bothering me about dating a popular girl and possibly taking one of the dance team girls to Prom at the end of the semester," I glance at her as the art teacher walks into the room holding a clipboard.

"Please say here, when I call your name," I suddenly hear an older woman look up from her clipboard as she stares at all of us.

This is going to be an interesting art class, at least I know someone in the class.

After roll call, I listen to her as she explains what the course load will include.and just when she says something about a midterm exam, I begin to zone out and half-pay attention to her and hear her say the words "portrait of a friend."

What the heck does that mean?

There's no way, I'm drawing my cousin in this class. That's super awkward and embarrassing.

"Um, excuse me but did you say that we have to draw a portrait of someone?" I raise my hand and notice that she points to me rudely.

Does this lady even bother to learn our names? She should know my name. I'm the most well-known student in school.

"Yes, Mr. Caswell. Your mid-term project will be to draw a picture of  a friend or family member," I notice that she uses my last name instead of my first name.

Ugh, I hate when teachers do that.

Just because the back of my jersey says Caswell does not mean that people can call me that.

"Oh, okay thank you for clarifying," I nod my head then go back to sitting in silence while listening to her talk about watercolors or something.

I'm too busy thinking about how I'm going to tell my team members that I think I'm gay or if I'm going to tell them at all. They are already peer pressuring me into asking a girl to Prom and the school semester just started.

"E.J, are you going to get your art supplies from the supply closet or do I have to get them for you?" I look up from my train of thoughts to see my cousin with her sleeves rolled up and a smock on standing in front of me.

I must have been daydreaming.

This is the second or third time I got distracted today.

Why am I like this?

"Huh? Oh yeah. I'm coming to get supplies," I go over to one of the hangers by the door and grab a smock and tie it then go over to the art supply closet in the corner of the room and pick out a set of water colors and drawing pencils like everyone else had done.

After listening to a very boring demonstration on how to use these fancy drawing pencils, the final bell rings notifying everyone that the school day has ended and I quickly grab my backpack to head out the door before Ashlyn can follow me.

Thankfully, I notice that neither Ashlyn nor Aaron has followed me as I walk to my locker and have a chance to take a deep breathe and look around the hall for the curly haired boy who I saw earlier.

While I grab the textbooks that I need for my homework today, I hear his voice again, the curly haired boy's voice.

I guess that the teacher let us out of art class a few minutes early since it's the first day of spring semester.

"Hey, what'cha looking at? Find a girl you wanna ask to prom already?," I feel a hand on my shoulder as I close my locker and turn my head and see my best friend, Chris standing behind me with another guy in tow.

"No, not yet, give it a break dude. It's only the first day back," I sling my backpack and gym bag over my shoulder as I follow the guys while they walk to the main doors.

"Too bad that it's till cold out. We could be showing off our skills and getting the ladies attention on the field," I listen to Chris talk as I we walk to his car since he usually drives me and the other guys home.

"Yeah, I can't wait for lacrosse season," I mumble to him and the other guy behind him while trying to sound excited for it.

I am excited for varsity lacrosse team try-outs but what I'm not excited about is the fact that my dad wants me to get spotted by a college scout this year.

I just want to play to win the game. Not play to win a scholarship or some school award.

A/N: The chapters will get a tiny bit longer as the drama and storyline increases. These first few chapters just introduce what the beginning of spring semester is like
